K-1 World Max Eliminations 07 – Masato vs. JZ Calvan
June 28, 2007 by nopstar
Alright… here you go. Don’t get pissed with me if this thing bonks out half way through. This is the first time I’ve ever used a converter and editor. I’m surprised I got this shit to work. I’ll try to get others up as soon as they are converted… enjoy
Masato vs. JZ Calvan
I respect Calvan for his aggressiveness. I think if he were to have fought Holzken he might have one. He started off strong but as soon as Masato got into his game, it was kind of over. Calvan seemed to get collected in between rounds but then it basically turned into the Masato show.

My apologies, the quality is pretty shit. I’ll try uploading again.
I liked the commercials in between the second and third round. Its nice to know that other countries are obessed with hair care products and pnuematic women as well.
As for the fight It looked like Calvan was trying to beat Masato with his boxing. He came out strong in the first round, especially with that silly super man punch (probably watching too much UFC). Masato is known for his hands (I think) so I don’t understand why Calvan thought he could out box him.
Masato was much more versatile not only with hands but with his other weapons as well. He took a lot of power out of calvan with those leg kicks. Masato would light Calvan up with the punches and end the combo with a leg kick. Even a top athelete like Calvan can’t take that many leg kicks without it fucking up his game. Having a injured front leg will take a lot of power out of your punches as you have to be really grounded for boxing.
Half of Calvan’s use of knees and kicks were in ridiculous showman kicks. He wasn’t nearly as rounded of a fighter as Masato.
I also liked Masato’s new haircut. I wonder if he’s using some of those haircare products.
So who does masato fight next?
This was final eliminations not the finals… it means Masato is in the K-1 Max final tournament along with the other winners of tonights fights.
So if Buakaw just happens to get cheated on decisions, he wont enter the K-1 finals?
Buakaw need to knock this Nieky guy out.
i think buakaw is holding back with the KO’s for the finals!
buakaw understands he is K-1′s big sell right now, unless he is really as naive as his innocent looks! K-1 would probably want buakaw up until the final fight for maximum viewership… so maybe buakaw can bank on good decisions for the first two fights of the final night and hold back the KOs. and then KTFO the fool he’s up against in the finals. (i personally want to see him KTFO out of everyone in the finals, including the judges and maybe those squealing girls in the audience too.)
masato looks *sharp* now btw. i hope buakaw brings his can opener and the home-grown can of muay thai ass-whoopin’ to share with him at the finals!
Actually that was a nice showing for JZ in what I believe was his first kickboxing fight. He’s tough and got a few combinations in.
For those who don’t know, he’s among the elite in MMA at 70 kg/155 lb. His American Top Team is mainly known for their jiu-jitsu but also have a good boxing program headed by former US gold medalist Howard Davis.
Tommy-
I totally agree, considering this isn’t his “thing”. Shit he lasted 3 solid rounds with Masato…
I think if he would have fought, Holzken or Ologun it would have been an entirely different matter.
Hey…..Ologun is the man!…….lol….Anywway…the Finals will be the same as last year and the year b4….Souwer vs Buakaw. Masato is looking really crisp though.
I don’t think anyone can get ahold on Zambidis or Sato’s fight, right?
I’m going to upload in an hour or so.
JZ never really had a chance. Yes, he did have a strong showing in the opening round, but there was no way he was going to bang with Masato. Masato has been hit by Zambidi (who is arguably the hardest puncher in Max) pretty squarely without going down. Also, as has been said, Masato is a far more complete fighter than JZ- in Max anyway. Congrats to Masato for his showing why he is still the tough pretty boy of Japan, and congrats to JZ for taking such hard shots and not going down. He could do better with more experience!
Nopstar….u are officially my new best friend!
If Masato didnt treat his fights like sparring sessions, he would have knocked JZ the hell out.
Everyone I know who watched it and knows Masato felt the same- disappointed.
He is always making a highlight reel for the ladies.
He is a damn good boxer. He has a great boxing coach that he has kept for years also a sound muay thai coach who takes good care of him.
I think Masato wants to finish up the fight game but wants to go out doing well.
Look for his Retirement fight within a year or a year and a half.
