K-1 Max Japan Final 2009
February 26, 2009 by nopstar

The Japan Max tournament took place on Monday. I haven’t got around to watching all the fights… to be quite honest though, I’m not sure I can be bothered.
The final 16 round matches are taking place April 21st. It appears our boy Buakaw is taking part in the event. That actually comes as a surprise to me, but then again who said I knew anything?
This year’s Japan tournament finals was between
Taishin Kohirumaki vs. Yuya Yamamoto
This vid is kind of shit, you might be better off clicking on the vid and watching it in HQ on Youtube.
This has got to be one of the strangest Max Tournament Finals. I hope it isn’t indicative of the new talent K1 is trying to bring in. I think I counted a total of 4 or 5 kicks thrown on the part of Kohi. It was like watching a real life rocky bout. Lot’s of toe to toe bombs being dropped.
I’m not sure what Yuyas deal is but what he lacks in talent he makes up with rage, guts and reckless abandon. Lot’s of heart with that one…

what a mess
I actually enjoyed that, I havn’t seen that much carnage since buakaw was in his prime. Wasn’t there a clinching rule change in K-1 that your only allowed to clinch and throw 2 knees? there were more than 2 thrown in that jam!
yes you are right, but only one technique is allowed:
Attacking more than once while holding the opponent’s kicking leg, or while holding the opponent’s neck with both hands
reminds me of buakaw beating kohi up : )
I enjoyed that as well, wow Yuya Yamamoto is a true warrior
Well, if a fight can’t be an awesome display of highly-refined skills, it can be awesome display of will. The checker shorts / red corner guy, I’m guessing Yuya, was a real warrior. I enjoyed that, thanks Nop.
Wow with the silly shorts and toe to toe pummeling I thought this was an MMA bout.
True warrior or not, a good boxer or kicker would beat the shit out of Yamamoto.
Kohi is a better fighter, but he was always a coward and defensive, therefore was unable to finish this. He showed some motivation the last minute in the 3rd round.
Nonetheless, the last round was enjoyable.
One thing is having a defensive game plan and the other is runing backwards the whole bout like kohi did. it was frustrating to watch.
K-1 continues it’s steady decline I see.
Gave up on K-1 a long time ago.
Kohi been working the hands, I see. Still probably wouldn’t last with the upper echelon Max guys.
tong po… with another words he won’t last. ;)
I am surprised the fighter literally dressed as a girl isn’t a clip some where.
Stack-
I’m trying to find the entire vid with the ring walk… do you have it?
Yuya Yamamoto got’s the ugliest muay thai shorts I’ve ever seen
What a nice fight!
Nop -
I have seen the entire broadcast via stream but I don’t actually have it. When I say dressed like a girl I mean walking out in a dress, pony tails, eye shadow, lipstick all of it. I’m not really into K-1 enough to actually download or keep any videos on K-1 at all. It’s out there to download by now though I’m sure.
I finally got a chance to watch this k-1 max final (in HD thx to HDnet)
the whole fightcard was no good.
but this final fight was very much fun to watch it had the ingredients of a great fight.
yamamoto – very good heart, but lacking technique, or it just went out the window when he got knocked down.
Nop and Stack….the fighter you are referring to is Yuichiro Nagashima…..I was a lil disapointed to hear that he really only took on fighting as a hobby….the commentators mentioned that his dreams was to be a professional voice-over artist for anime characters. He loves to dress as female manga/anime characters…a lil creepy if u asked me.
Hayato trained wit a japanese fomer WBC champ.
Yuya actually fought pretty well in his first and second fight…Kohi was simply a more experienced fighter.
Andy Ologun disapointed me (as usual) Kido did too…I lost a lotta respect for them. Hinata is a beast in my opinion.
I’m almost 100% sure that Nagashima is a fairy (even the way he punches reminded me of a woman if you ask me) but he’s been Knocking fools out …..I think they mentioned that he was 11-0 coming into the competition. Oh he also fought MMA in the past and seems to be a Judo expert.
My opinion….Hinata and Yuya were the gems of this competition.
OH….How can I forget>>>>SATO……He really did his thing
kohi tore yuya up. idk what u guys mean by this being a mess. i thought he did well and yuya was out matched. kohi obviously has the better hands. and he capitalized on it.
Sloppy back and forth battle from two fighters who don’t have enough power in their hands to knock each other out. Uninterested.
Kohi’s hands looked much improved, but def. lacked the power to do any real damage. Also way to go K-1 for enforcing the “clinch” rule; the ref just watched Kohi as he threw 3-4 knees in the clinch multiple times in the fight. I know it’s about $$$ and it’s probably not best for his career at his age, but I wish Buakaw would return to MT so I wouldn’t have to watch K-1 anymore.
