So it looks to be that time of year again. Since Buakaw isn’t fighting for the belt, I’ve been really unenthused. So by the time most of you are reading this, Max should be in full swing. Hopefully I’ll have some footage up tomorrows post. If you guys find any clips, email them my way… any help tracking them down is greatly appreciated.

I see that Buakaw is slated for superfight with Black Mamba… To be honest I’ve never heard of the Black Mamba aka Kultar Gill prior to today. I did a little digging… he’s currently fighting out of Vancouver BC, his Kickboxing record is 15-3. He seems to be more involved with MMA, I’m not sure what the point of this matchup is… I guess K-1 is trying to inject some new blood into the division.
I wonder if Buakaw even trained for this… hopefully they did.
The main fights of the evening pit Souwer vs. Kyshenko with the winner taking on the winner of the Sato v Masato match up.
Sato vs. Masato

I feel like with all of the format changes this is going to be Masato year. Obviously if he wins the belt this year, I’m almost certain he would retire. Sort of a shame really… I would have liked to have seen Buakaw revenge his lost. I think he’ll knock Sato down early and will play it safe and coast to a decision win.
Souwer vs. Kyshenko

It’s no secret that I’m a Kyshenko fan. So you’ll understand my lapse in judgement. I say this is going to be the fluke fight… Everyone is expecting the champ to roll through Kyshenko. I think Kyshenko is going get lucky and catch Souwer with cross or hook, just enough to put champ on his arse. Would I put money on this prediction? No, just wishful thinking. I don’t think Souwer looked that sharp against Stevelmans, in fact I think it should have gone an extra round.
I think it’s a Masato vs. Kyshenko final, with Masato outworking and out scoring Kyshenko. Masato wins the belt and all is well in Japan.
What do you think?

I heard somewhere that K-1 isn’t allowing tights anymore…
If that’s true, I think everyone rooting for Souwer should think seriously about changing their predictions… =)

Buakaw vs Mamba… Buakaw with UD. He’s just too lazy and unmotivated lately to KO his opponent I guess.
Masato vs Sato… Masato is just faster than Sato, and Sato can’t handle good boxers.
Kyshenko vs Souwer… I would love to see Kyshenko win, but this is Souwer with super defense he’s fighting.
GP winner… I root for Masato. He really improved and is super motivated fighter.

“Obviously if he wins the belt this year, I’m almost certain he would retire. Sort of a shame really…”
On the other hand, if he wins and retires, maybe we will stop seeing suspicious judgements, changed rules, etc.? Curious.

i agree gusnark, as much as i love masato – his retiring would make a sizeable difference for the k1 game. i too would like to see buakaw beat masato around the ring again though.
im rooting for kyshenko!

I’m pulling for Sato to do well, if not win. Talk about an underdog. The guy has a lot of heart, and I like that he has more of a thai style of fighting (my opinion). But the way he eats punches, the fact that this is K-1, and Masato’s vicious punching style makes me anxious.
I’d also like to see Kyshenko avenge his loss against Masato. But even better would be a final where Kyshenko and Sato face off. I guess that makes me an even bigger wishful thinker than you, Nop. But in a tournament anything can happen, so here’s hoping.
