Jordan Watson in action
August 11, 2009 by nopstar

Props to Spyda for tracking this down and sharing this with us. This clip is of Jordan Watson, who is the representing the UK in the 2nd Season of the Contender Asia.
I’ve been to a few shows here in the UK and I don’t think I’ve seen Watson in action yet, I think I would have remembered. He fights out of BadCompany in leeds. BadCompany is a very strong camp and it’s other noteworthy nakmuays include Liam Harrison, Rich Cadden and Andy Howson.
According to the Badcompany site, Jordan has been training with the BadCompany crew since he was six. Born in ‘87 he’s had 70+ fights in the junior division and is 22-3 as a professional.
I’m interested to see how Jordon will do… I have to say I’m impressed with his speed and power. Cadden said it best when he likened him to a coiled spring.
This match up is classic NakMuay vs. Kickboxer. This is the classic example of why you don’t hop or skip around against a nakmuay. You will eat leg kicks all day.
Anyway, impressive performance, I’m really looking forward to seeing him in action.

Jordan is really good.
Very nice style. Authentic.
seems a lil one dimensional to me. prolly wont do too well against the better fighters in the house.
i’d like to see more of him, that was kind of a walk in the park for him. definately a badcompany fighter though, that gym produces some exciting fighters. chok dee!
Seuakhao, It’s actually impossible to label a fighter as “one dimensional” unless you have watched him fight more than once. As Nop mentioned this is a typical Muay Thai vs Kickboxing match and everyone knows that kickboxer’s achilles heels is the low kick…because once again as Nop mentioned kickboxers like to hop and skip. I think this was more of a strategy in the part of Jordan. I have had the pleasure of watching a couple of his fight and let me assure you that he is NOT one dimensional.
Iv trained with Jordan a few times (rather, been trained by him) and watched him fighting. He has a very relaxed authenic style. He kicks like a race horse and I think probably has the best pluhm technique in the UK.I havnt yet seen him in a boring fight.Aside from the fact thatIv trained with him and hes british I can honestly say I think he has a very good chance to win this.
Very nice fight, classic matchup. Man kickboxers piss me off with all their hippity skippity hopscotch, punch flurry half then half-ass lowkick….Maybe that’s why i sometimes dislike K-1.
Personal rants aside, Jordan looks like he really fights well, he is composed, has what seems like a good grapple, throws MEANINGFUL punches (yes another kickboxer rant, sue me), good quick explosive kicks, balance, solid punch defense (that’s one thing i’ll give kickboxers, they can throw punches in bunches, careful, a stray one might hit you in the right spot!)
Why am i so angry at kickboxers today? lol
Spyda.. You made a great point. Can hardly call someone one dimensional off one fight. Why stop kicking his legs when that’s working so well? That’s called being a smart fighter. I would definitely like to see more of his fights to see how the rest of his arsenal is.
i am impressed. look forward to watching him.
Nice fight by Watson. He made it look fairly easy. His style of powerful kicks was certainly good against this opponent.
Very Very Nice! He is strong and composed. Cant wait for season 2! A lot of talented Thai Boxers in the house.
Awesome kicks.
1) spin kicks, flick kicks and and a crappy roundhouse…all the dutchman needed was long pants and those little foam booties covering his feet…
2) i can see how somebody’d think he’s one-dimensional, cause he threw a lot of mostly low kicks…i call it a strategy, took his heart away…cracking the shell indeed
3) turning his back on top-class nak muays (as he did twice in a row in the 1st row) is gonna earn a cross in the face…
4) ankle guards and embroidered trunks do not a nak muay make…
5) if you’re gonna rock the pink, you’d better be able to back it up !
The Dutch guy looks to me obviously very nervous. The bouncing imo is a bad idea in any combat sport. When you’re bouncing you’re not settled to defend or attack. Jordan looked really good but if the Dutch opponent was so bad why was he in there? Was this a mismatch? The tipping over the top ropes in my experience has always been considered a foul usually subject to a point deduction.
Any coach worth anything will tell you NOT to bounce whether its boxing, Muay Thai or even MMA. I wouldn’t characterize the bouncing as a thing typical in even kickboxing or any combat sport. I think it was nerves and to me probably some actual fear from the Dutch boxer.
Jordan looks very obviously solid to me and I’d agree he will likely do pretty well.
ouch…leg kicks are the best
i’m with rj….i’ve a SERIOUS hard-on for kickboxers, especially facing muay thai
Thanks MuayThaiMex,
Celtic1967….Everything you said was on point….especially #4 and #5….lol.
Stack…I should have been more specific….bouncing is in fact very typical of American Kickboxing as well as sports such as Tae Kwon Do. U’re right though…bounchin in MMA, Muay Thai or even Boxing will earn u a trip to the canvas.
In American Kickboxing if you’re smart you won’t bounce. Same thing applies – if you’re bouncing you’re not going to be able to attack or defend well. To my opinion especially in boxing.
If you’re ever bored look up some Teddy Atlas clips of him training and look at what he thought of guys who bounced in boxing and his steps to correct it. Some might say it was less than kind.
Oh and bouncing in boxing won’t usually earn you a trip, it usually earns you getting punched repeatedly and painfully.
Gent’s.. Anyone know of any video clips (training or fighting) of great MT footwork we can all analyze and utilize?
Jordan Watson looks much bigger than his opponent. Nice quick and strong kicks, he should fight some stronger nak muay and then we would see what’s he made of. Not bad for a farang.
