I have some HQ stuff but since I don’t want Reidy, Clifton, or RISARC suing me I’ll have to put it elsewhere.

Those announcers love JWP. I thought most of the rounds went to Buakaw. He was cleaner and more powerful. JWP’s kicking isn’t that strong, its just not his forte. The aussies were right on JWP’s game plan, he should have gone in with his hands then followed with elbows. I thought the judge’s scores were pretty on it.

  3. manant on June 29th, 2009 9:55 am

I know the commentators were Australian and were rooting for JWP but they didnt half chat a load of bubbles about the scoring and who was winning what round. At some point over the fight they largely said that JWP won everyround and then slightly changed their mind throughout the fight. Then waffled on about JWP winning rounds 4 and 5 and BPP winning 1 and 2 then saying everything to play for in round 5?Aside from the fact that that was total rubbish (I reakon BPP won all four rounds not by a thrashing but just by out kicking), had that been tru surely BPP winning round 5 would have made no differenec if JWP had took 3 and 4?At the end they reckoned it was a controversial decision?

The fight I was watching BPP pretty much won every round decisivly I thought.JWP for me was hoping to win by KO and was for the most part picked apart by good technical kicking.Still not a bad fight!

  4. padkeemaw on June 29th, 2009 11:52 am

They inculcated JWP`s name a bit too much and with some overabundance. BPP took it..notable gassed at end ..but hey he won already. Their comments were funny, though..

Stack would really appreciate a link to your vids…not sure i’d trust gofightlive after what i heard about what happened during the live feed.

  6. buuface on June 29th, 2009 2:02 pm

Punches are the lowest scoring weapon in traditional muaythai scoring right?. Also i believe that consistantly blocking high kicks with your arm instead of fully checking them does not look good to the thai judges. Taking both those points into account i think its pretty clear that Buakaw won.

  7. muaythaifocus on June 29th, 2009 2:20 pm

I can’t believe the amount of people posting on forums that it was close to be honest, I like JWP and wanted him to do well in his 100th fight, but Buakao I thought won comfortably

  8. TexMT on June 29th, 2009 2:26 pm

Good fight. This is much closer to the old Buakaw. The commentators were obviously biased towards JWP, but they said as much several times, so no big deal. I’d have given 1 & 2 to BPP, 3 a draw, 4 a draw or closely to BPP and 5 to BPP. Great stuff.

  9. sudan on June 29th, 2009 2:32 pm

I was there live, after the fight Buakow told me “fight no good”, he didn’t like his performance. I thought he won and controlled the fight but it was nothing spectacular. JWP looked like he was trying too hard and to me Buakow looked kind of flat; however, I still enjoyed the show although it was way too long.

  10. GorillaPalmz on June 29th, 2009 4:23 pm

was a good fight, thought the decision was correct. i think the way the commentators colored it, one would have thought jwp took it by a mile, but not so. buakaw was gassed at the end, though, but did enough to win.

  11. natemuaythaimaster on June 29th, 2009 4:54 pm

I have to agree with the commentators, I though JWP won it, JWP was working harder in round 3-5, and both fighters weren’t really landing stuff expect for a couple of JWP power punches, the fight was mediocre

  12. thaifan on June 29th, 2009 5:10 pm

I actually enjoyed the fight a lot. I felt Buakao had the upper hand, and won at least 3 out of the 5 rounds, by effectively countering and also finishing each of the exchanges with a strong weapon.

  13. Stack on June 29th, 2009 5:27 pm

Hey guys. My means of getting the videos appears to have been thwarted a bit. The youku ones are probably the best bet since they are in China. Apologies. I’ll see if I cannot do something else.

  14. C on June 29th, 2009 6:04 pm

I’m glad that the judges had the same feelings about the fight as I did. Though I really hoped that JWP would win, I couldn’t agree with the commentators. JWP landed a few clean shots, but BPP controlled the ring and landed A LOT more kicks. BPP actually performed a lot better compared with some of his recent fights.

  15. sudan on June 29th, 2009 8:06 pm

Hey stack, remember that discussion we had about american trainers? Well if you check the mymuaythai facebook, I posted a picture of my trainer, Nestor Marte and Ajarn Prasit. Johnmuay was saying that Nestor was teaching kickboxing, which is pure rubbish. Ajarn Prasit is from Thailand, once a year he goes the NYC and helps us train, he has been Nestor’s trainer since 1988.

  16. sudan on June 29th, 2009 8:10 pm

I feel bad for the champion to champion event. The promoters tried to do something extra ordinary but there was some set backs. I hope they can continue to bring us some fights next year. They just need to tighten up. 10 fights in 1 night and a fashion show was just too much.

  17. Stack on June 29th, 2009 8:16 pm

I haven’t even managed to view all the fights for this year nevermind next year.

I speak only for myself but I’ll view this after the fact. I’m not ever going to spend money and only be able to view half the event ever again. This was by a margin the worst PPV I have ever seen. Make that tried to see.

  18. Stack on June 29th, 2009 8:25 pm

Thanks Sudan, I’ll check that out. Just so you know I never passed judgment on Nestor at all. To my knowledge he’s never attempted to screw anyone and Nestor actually fought.

I am going to go against the grain here…wai kru to me is not a big deal unless required for an event. in which case you could and should do it. I’m not Thai and sometimes I feel when non-Thais do it it’s disrespectful and it becomes a really bad miming of the motions of someone else’s culture. I think it can be sincere and a beautiful ceremony. But to my eyes when some foreigners do it – it looks disrespectful and sloppy. Some Thais don’t actually do a very long or elaborate wai kru either. I’ve seen some settle for touching the 4 corners and doing a very short wai kru. The ceremony to me is less important than the respect I guess.

  19. sudan on June 29th, 2009 8:38 pm

Stacks, I know that you didn’t pass judgment, but you didn’t seem to know if he was legit or not. Hopefully, this will convince you (i know it’s just a picture). We all have to be aware that there is a lot of BS online.
Back to Buakow, I hope he can get back to that 2004 form. I personally think that Buakow should take 6 months to a year off to rejuvenate his mind, body and soul.

  20. Stack on June 29th, 2009 8:45 pm

Hey one more dumb ass question – is it among the 14 on the MMT facebook?

Like I told John – Nestor sure tools those MMA guys pretty easily.

  21. Stack on June 29th, 2009 8:57 pm

Dude I’ve never seen this before you got some great pictures. Yeah there is a lot of BS online and it kills me how much of it goes unchallenged. But Nestor isn’t one of these guys who parades around insisting on being called Master, Ajarn or kru either. I mean when’s the last time you had to bow to him and call him arjan? Plus like I said he actually fights.

As far as Buakaw he does need a break. But in 2 weeks he’s back to K-1.

  22. teep on June 29th, 2009 8:57 pm

I thought it was a good fight by both guys. Buakaw won at least three of the rounds but JWP had good moments as well. In my opinion, it was a fair decision. You have to give JWP credit, EVERY fight he has, he gives it his all.

  23. sudan on June 29th, 2009 9:55 pm

I never had to call Nestor Kru, master or almighty.
JWP is a very nice guy, after meeting him, I like him even more. I think he needs to work those kicks and add some different punches to his attack. He seemed to only throw a 1, 2 combo. How about leading with hooks, upper cuts and right hands. His style is too predictable for someone like BPP.

  24. Frank on June 29th, 2009 10:13 pm

That’s an interesting way of looking at Wai Krus, Stack. Can see where you’re coming from. I personally love them, except when performed sloppily (I think that shows more disrespect than not doing them).
For me it also helps me stay calm and get in the right mood before a fight.

  25. Stack on June 29th, 2009 10:41 pm

That said I always do a wai kru where it’s required. And I try to do it justice but I’ve seen a ton of people from the west’s version of ‘authentic’ Muay Thai do absolutely shit-worth wai kru. And I had an immediate desire to climb into the ring to hit them with a baseball bat for making it a mockery or obviously not doing it with any care or attention. In a scenario like that they’d be better off not doing it at all.

  26. Gusnark aka Sandjora on June 30th, 2009 12:07 am

A clear win for Buakaw. He was more accurate and more busy. JWP just didn’t find an answer and it’s written all over his face in the end.
And the commentators said in the end that they are not being biased. Why would you say something like that? They should be more professional.
Btw, awesome wai kru by Buakaw and great to see him fighting under full muay thai rules.

  27. TigerKing on June 30th, 2009 2:46 am

Anyone know where i can get all of the other fights online?

JWP posted his thoughts on the fight on the Sherdog forums:
    http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f42/my-fight-buakaw-1005262/
    He feels Buakaw definitely won.

  36. SE on July 1st, 2009 8:09 pm

cool. he seems like a cool guy in that post. i think jwp did rly well.

  37. SE on July 1st, 2009 8:09 pm

    CEDRIC CALLED buakaw “BOO-YA-KAH”

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

    ok im done

  38. Nathan Wade Willet on July 1st, 2009 10:55 pm

Every JWP fight “Hammer” comments on he clearly states that he is very biased so that’s nothing new.

This fight was a typical Thai warm up fight. It was boring. BPP was content to play the points and not get into any real trouble. I did see he got a little angry and threw a few elbows, but that’s all.

  39. MuayThaiMex on July 2nd, 2009 8:18 pm

I agree with the decision. Although JWP was busy – sometimes it’s just not enough.

The first thing the promoter should do is change the location. Another quiet as hell crowd. Imagine this lineup in London, Amsterdam or LA?

  40. SE on July 2nd, 2009 8:45 pm

i wonder out of those three locations, which would draw the biggest crowd.

  41. buuface on July 2nd, 2009 9:57 pm

Damn, if i was Buakaw and fighting 8 kilos lighter than my opponent i would have played the same way

  42. nopstar on July 3rd, 2009 12:13 am

    SE-

    Amsterdam all the way!

  43. LuBu on July 3rd, 2009 3:45 am

Stack – for some reason i can’t use megaupload in Hong Kong. Any other place where you can put the HQ files? thanks.

  44. LuBu on July 3rd, 2009 4:52 am

Stack ignore my last request – most of these clips on YouTube are in HD anyways so don’t go through the trouble. thanks anyways.

  45. czh25 on July 8th, 2009 10:34 am

The judges are clearly Thai and reali judging MT, NOT K1…haha…glad tt BPP won as he was showing many good techniques…JWP had sm clear shots to head but not enough to win…anw, the two commentators were too biased to be judges!
