Welcome to our 4th instalment of MMT skype interview series.  Many thanks to JWP for taking the time out of his schedule to catch up with us.  For those of you new to MMT or Muay Thai, John Wayne Parr  is an Australian Nak Muay who is probably the most well known western Nak Muay fighting today.

JWP was one of the first foreign Nak Muay to move and fight in Thailand full time.  He left Australia in ’95 and lived and fought out of Thailand for 4 years.  As many of you know, if you want to “live” and train in Thailand, 99% of the camps in Thailand will take you, if you’ve got the money.  When JWP was training in Thailand, there were very few camps that were accessible to foreigners.  You basically had to have an intro, someone to vouch for you.  They were essentially taking a punt on you…

He’s a veteren of 110 fights , 6 time world champion, and has fought pretty much fought everyone  you’ve seen on MMT!  On top of his fight schedule, being a dad he owns and runs the boonchu gym in Queensland Australia.

His “Child Abuse” Allegations

Thanks for the time JWP!

  1. He said MMA is, “a whole different violence!” Hahaha!! I love it!

  2. Jwp a real ambassador for muay thai all over australia and around the world. Hes been in the game a long time now. I cant wait to see the doco.. Looks quite good with him meeting up with his old trainer in thailand and featuring other nak muays past and present :) I agree about Ghokan Saki too Hes also one of my favorite fighters to watch -a real wrecking machine in the ring with speed and techniuqe that wouldnt think hed have for a man his size

    • he answers nops question as if he is a K1 fighter and not a nak muay. a ‘real’ pure nak muay would have named a couple famous nak muays but he didnt mention any…

  3. lol yes I have to agree with u there SE. I was alittle surprised coz I thought he was going to rattle off a few names like yodsanklai, saenchai etc.. but instead he pulled a bunch of k1 fighters outa the hat lol

  4. “Pure Nak Muay”? The guys fought for over a decade in full rules. In sport which it’s most powerful driving force is MONEY : not national pride, not culture, not prestige and fame…Money. In the epicenter of Muay Thai, you are often critiqued by your peers and fans by how much you’re broke off, and in a time when the sport was even more ruthless to farang, he won the highest purse in Muay Thai history…A Farang (and as far as I know he got to keep it too.). In I’d think that says a world more about his credentials than his choice of name dropping on a spot interview.
