My Muay Thai

The Rants and Ramblings of a Muay Thai Fan

Ivan Hippolyte

October 10th, 2008 · 10 Comments

Every now and then I try to do a post profiling influential nak muays.  I say try, because I don’t know that much about them either.  I have to admit my knowledge of him is limited, so if anyone can add to this please do.

Ivan Hippolyte is considered by most one of the legends of Dutch Muay Thai.  People always mention Kaman, Hoost, Aerts and Dekkers.  Today we’re going to talk about Hippolyte.

Hippolyte was born in 1964 in Suriname and trained out of the Vos gym in Holland, and has since taken over the gym.  He was a former trainer of Ernesto Hoost and current trainer of Remy Bonjasky.  He had a record of 69-6 and amassed several titles in Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Savate.  His Muay Thai titles  including the WMC and WMTA belt.  I read somewhere that he also earned a Lumpini title, but I need some help verifying that.

The fight everyone had anticpated was a fight against Dekkers, which sadley never materialised.  Some of his notable wins were against Jomhod & Changpuek.

Here is his battle with Jomhod… I’m going to warn you though, your going to want to put the fight on mute.  The announcers are unbearable.  At one point one of the commentators ask the other ” How do you ask something in … Taiwanese”.

Ivan won a WMTC in Lumpini. He never got a Lumpini title.

Sounds like the Lumpini title thing is a bunch of overly zealous Dutch hyperbole.

“How do you ask someone if they know where they are in Taiwanese?” Hahaha. Huge uppercut though. Hippolyte’s punches look really powerful.

Damn, Hippo really put that shit on the great Jomhod. I only seen Kronsak do that to Jomhod.

Ivan was losing, Jomhod found his weakness - clinch and taking knees.
But man, that was a great uppercut. You could clearly see that Jomhod was not the same after that punch.
Ivan also became a new coach of CroCop.

Nice fight between Ivan and Jomhod. I like that Ivan fought with a very stable traditional style (in my opinion)
