I’ve wrote a post on Monlit a couple of months ago called your teachers, teacher.  Monlit is the head trainer at Sitsongpeenong, and was named “Muay Thai Trainer of the year”.  I’ve wanted to do an interview with him as he’s an important figure to many of us on MMT.

As most of you already know, he trained my trainers… Bunkerd, Jongsanan and Neungsiam.   My introduction to Muay Thai was through these 3 fighters.  A lot of the interview didn’t make it on camera… after the cameras were off we spoke at length about when he trained these guys.

He told me how he used to push them relentlessly… how he used to chase Nuengsiam with a stick!     Basically he told me that you’ve got to treat your fighters like family.  You’ve got to be their parent, their uncle… you need to take care of them show them love inside and outside of the ring.  Only then will someone fight for you…   because most of the guys were basically kids, he acted as a surrogate big brother to them…. he was telling me he would make noom do pullups, if he didn’t finish, he couldn’t leave or eat until he was done.

During the course of the day, I watched him eyeball his fighters and push them… I don’t think he’s changed much from those days…

If you ever in Thailand, I highly recommend that you check out Sitsongpeenong.  They’ve got a great program, world class training facilities and of course Monlit.  Many Thanks to Khun Tim and the Sitsongpeenong team for all of their hospitality.

    • if there is no “plus button” just look for something saying “cc”

      • Yeah… that’s lame, apparently I can’t turn it on for everyone… people will have to select the Close Captioning (CC) option on the own player

  10. That was great! Thanks Nop.

  11. Very nice interview, Nop! I really like the connection to Bunkerd, Noom (Jongsanan) and Mart (Neungsiam). They all have different styles, but it’s good to see where they originally got it from. Noom does seem the toughest- in and out of the ring.
