I came across this today, pretty funny. As always props to MMT friend Stephen aka Pisand for uncovering this turd.
I’ve run across all sorts of people who’ve embellished their fight records or experience in order to gain credibility or legitimacy. The fight community is small, especially the Thai fight community. I remember a couple of months ago, back at FnF a guy came with some of his students. I think he told his student that he was either a Lumpini or Raja champ. Do you think you’re not going to get outed? Shit man you could get away with that pre-internet days’ (like some have…)
So I’m thinking I’ve been to a couple of gyms here in London, I came across one gym where the guy was teaching TKD and passing it off as Muay Thai. I should just open up my own place… problem is I don’t really have any credibility. What can I get that would give me some instant cred?
Oh shit, I got it! Just buy your own Rajadomnern belt off e-bay! Why didn’t I think of that shit? Hahaha the description is great. The belt is straight from Bangcock yall! $750 bucks? Bunkerd better put his bling on lock down. Actually Tong Po, you should check that someone didn’t swipe off the wall.
Ok I get it you might be a fan, or a collector… but unless you earned what the effe are you doing with a Raja belt?
Have any of you had a trainer or Kru who was bending the truth a little? If you did, don’t name them by name, I don’t even need to go down that road. I’d love to hear what their claim was and what made you suspicious?

The shipping is only $9.99! That’s awesome! Besides $750 is a fucking deal. You know how expensive a plane ticket is? Plus I’d have to go to the stadium or something to actually get one of those belts and Thai people talk all crazy. I can’t figure out what the fuck to say to them. I would have thrown down at least 8 bills on that sweet piece of metal. Hopefully another one will go up on ebay soon!

hahaha, I love talking to guys in the gym who claim they even have a fight record. But I know when people are lying to me about themselves, so I just play along and let them flatter themselves. If it makes them feel better about themselves to hype up or lie about their life, so be it, they will never be content. Who ever pays $750 for an expensive piece of worthless metal can tell me any story they want. Nice find.

“champ from Bangcock” LMAO.
I almost choked with chewing gum.
There you go, everything can be bought with money, if someone disagrees, you’re just buying in the wrong shop. Simple as that. :)

(…) one is Lumpini and the other is RAJADAMNER in Bangcock.
Oh lawd… Hahaha…

I remember sometimes when guys win a title, I see all kinds of people trying on the belt just for kicks. Shit, sadly, I’ve done this myself! People start snapping pictures, then voila, instant champion!! It sucks when people claim to have fights/records that are outrageous!
As far as getting cred, its not too late to get a few fights under your belt (pun intended).

What places in London have you trained at so far?
I could recommend a couple but I want to make sure they’re not already on your shit list first. :)

yeah, I’m training in london now, out of the KO gym in bethnal green. Hehe I hope that’s not the one on your shit list, although I think I know the one you’re talking about with regards to teaching TKD…

Man your so negative about training in London.Got to say I know very little about the London Thai boxing community but im fairly sure you’ve been very unlucky?!Obviously its not gona be the same as Thailand but the UK honestly has some pretty good gyms.Your definately looking in the wrong places?Ive never seen any Muay Thai from the states and the only thing Iv got to judge the standard of US thai boxing is the mma scene and the americans iv trained with in Thailand (which is only a few), but based on this (and the people from the UK that have gone to the USA teach) there cant be much of a scene in the US?Am I way off the mark here?Is it really that much better than London.Im from the north of england maybe you should take a few road trips?

Manant-
I hope you don’t think I’m down on the UK MT scene. It isn’t my intention.. I went to 2 places that were really bad, actually utter shit. After that I came across KO. I’m currently training at KO at bethenal green which is a legit MT camp. I’m quite happy that I came across KO. The guy running the place Bill, knows his shit.
The MT scene in the States varies. I was living in the Bay Area which is a weird little hot bed for MT. San Francisco with a population of about 800K has a lot of Muay Thai champions running around. I’m slightly spoiled as my last camp had 2 Lumpini Champions.
I know you guys think I’m exaggerating about the first gym… I wish I was making it up.. it wouldn’t have been so damn depressing.

No mate I dont doubt for a minute that you came across some bull shit muay thai in the UK.Iv come across a lot of it here myself. There is some literally awful martial arts clubs here and some truly terrible shows, I was at one near London the other week and the whole thing was embarrisingly bad.Just trying to point out that you sound unlucky in the gyms you’ve found so far(KO obviously being an exception).Im only really a hobbyist myself but I train a lot, and iv trained and fought (badly) in Thailand a number of times. Although theres not a lot of them, I train and have trained in the Uk with people I consider to be at a good competetive standard fairly comparable with Thailand, obviously not quite the same!!Wish my gym had 2 Lumpinee champs, although we are thinking about trying to sort that out actually, watch this space!!
April 21, 2008 at 7:50 pm
awesome, you’re training at bethnal as well? Can’t believe we haven’t run into each other. When d’you go?
April 21, 2008 at 8:10 pm
hahaha…. ok i just had to tell this story… when i was training in Phuket, i went to Patong stadium one night with the gym to watch some fights. i can’t remember who it was but one of the fighters from the gym was fighting for (or defending) the stadium title. Just like everwhere else in thailand the thais’ were trying to make an extra buck off us stupid white folk and were charging to take pictures with the belt. Apperently…. this two girls put the belt on and just started walking around the stadium showing there 10,000 friends how “funny’ it was they had this thing on…. and when noone was looking.. left with it. walked right out the front door. Dumb bitch’s. I know small trinkets like a stadium belt won’t bring you much credit in the fight world, but for some 17 yearold thai kid with a 50-50 record would be proud to bring that thing home to his community.

A story someone here might be familiar with…
I once had a trainer who was known as just having a very good eye for the sport and just had some very unorthodox training methods which his top students claimed was “Traditional & Technical”. What made me curious was that he also did things like using TKD lollipop pads for kicks (im not gonna name any other stuff but lets just say it was very unique), then finally it was after one of his older students broke some top secret info he only bestows on his top students (kinda like a secret truth scientology thing) , That he was trained by the military and was undefeated in closed door challenge matches, including supposedly beating the crap out of a famous san shou practioner…much later in my training I came more accolades and accusations from both him and his detractors. some reasonable like “He started in TKD under (very well respected tkd trainer) and then learned Muay Thai”, to absurdaties such as him not owning his gym , but the true owner of his gym being a multimilionare who has a beautiful villa and rolls around in a helicopter…

Come to think of it the “truth bending” came more often by proxy rather than directly from the instructor.
April 23, 2008 at 7:08 am
Sounds really depressing, I mentioned before that were i grew up, there was only TKD and Karate and the Instructors were Blue and Brown Belt, not filled with quality, and I dont think its as realistic and Exciting as Muay Thai or Wing Chung. I would be devestated if I finally found a Gym with a Champ only later to find out that it was a crock of BS. A Big Fuck You to all the Posers out there, and I hope their mouth gets them into trouble their ass cant handle.
May 26, 2008 at 11:46 am
OMG. I am in disbelief! Buying your credibility on ebay? Yes, how on earth do those posers think that they can pass themselves off as “champions” and not get caught? It’s a small circle, eventually, they will be figured out. A simple warning: the winner of the “Bankcock Belt” is in Canada, Muay Thai students beware! And how dare the seller use Sagatpetch’s image (Ingram Gym) to legitimize the the belt!
