Human Weapon Savate

So I’ve been wanting to blog about this for a while. I was just waiting to get my hands on the clip. Many thanks to pcmarco for the upload. So have you guys been keeping up with Human Weapon on the History Channel?
I have to admit I’m enjoying it more then I did in the beginning. I guess I’ve become de-sensitized to the hosts. I just expect Bill to say meat head shit.
Anyway I wanted to talk about the Savate episode, I did a post ages ago on Savate, in the post I had a Savate HL clip that showed Savatuers mixing it up in the ring. So cut to this episode of Human Weapon. As always I think they did a great job covering the history. If you haven’t seen it yet, let it load and start watching around 37 mins.
In the final Bill fights a 2002 Savate Champion, Issa Cissoko. Ok I understand the guy was a champ 5 years ago, but come on. The guy looks like shit… just plain sloppy. I know sometimes it’s difficult to fight people from different styles, but Bill has got no style. I personally find it difficult to fight flailers, I find that their herky, jerky movements screws up my timing. I’m not sure if this is what’s happening here?
I don’t see a champion in there at all, maybe I’m be unduly harsh but I’ve seen better smokers with guys with 4 months experience.
even when he managed to sweep, he took himself down too. why is this bill guy in the show?
Not to change the subject, but did you see that Bill guy on the Marine episode? He dunked all the marines when they had to wrestle in the water.. I swear those marines looked like they wanted to put a knife in his neck when he started doing his typical gorilla-like yelling at the end on how badass he is. I find the show entertaining as well for the history, but that guy makes me want to saw my ears off..
I don’t like either of those guys. The savate episode was shit…..well not totally….the history was good as NOP pointed it out. It sticks pretty close to what I know ( I am french). The fight at the end was complete trash. Typical for them to fight an outta shape washed out champion. That fight was sloppier than Tim Silvia (UFC).
When flailers come at me at starts throwing bolos….I jump back and teep them in the face a few times…most of the time, that slows them down ;-)
Flailers are always tough- because of their inexperience, they usually get a softer some sympathy, but flailers that hit/kick hard get the same back to slow them down. Big, strong, ugly flailers are very hard to do anything with.
is this just a subjective evaluation when i say savate looks a little “un-tight”? i mean, it doesn’t look tight like boxing or muay thai or even kyokushin. something just looks inefficient and un-evolved and maybe a little awkward. can they generate much power by swinging their hands the “wrong” way when they kick?
i agree with you nop, maybe this sport is *very* different from ours, but the best i saw was the guy sparring jason at raid and the rest were the average smoker quality. like me. or worse.
and bill is being funny, man! playing the meat-head is probably his gig on this show.
I like those guys, you just can’t take them all that seriously. They’re both just a couple of amateur enthusiasts having fun getting to travel all over the world and learn. Take the show for what it is-entertainment.
