Gym Cred.

April 19, 2007 by nopstar

Everyone meet Floyd Mayweather. Floyd is a monster, however today I’m not interested in showing you any of his boxing skills…

So my question to you, how long do you have to jump rope until you can pull those moves off. Is it possible I’ve got jump rope envy? If I walk into the gym and I see anyone, male or female who can jump rope like this… I’m not fucking with them.

I was told recently that cauliflower ears in Japan, have become the new status symbol. I argue that jump roping skill will initially give you gym cred. The only way you can get this good is to have spent hours and hours of your life in a gym.

you’re right about gym cred, nopstar. i jump rope like this too.. but with a slightly different bag of tricks. that’s to be attributed to my training in other sports and my addiction to jumping rope. but people still assume i’m a good boxer or something when i warm up in the gym, but are immediately disappointed when they see me spar. my muay thai skills are at best intermediate by european standards. but the 20 min of fame makes it worth it :)

Souvik, what do you mean by european standards????

  3. nopstar on April 19th, 2007 9:10 am

    Spydaman-

I might be talking shit, but based on what I’ve seen the Europeans have a much deeper talent pool of fighters then we’ve got in the States.

Also I think Souvik was comparing it to Thai standards though.

Jump roping is pretty boring to me, but its a good warm up. Oh, and I notice its always the boxers with the fancy jump roping tactics.

Nopstar….u’re not talkin shit…U’re speakin the truth, We have a couple of good gyms in the US, but we’re (they’re) fairly new to Muay Thai, I wish I was still in France, I’m thinking of moving back. Holland, France and england are the top MT countries in europe, and yes u are right, Traditional Muay Thai is deeper rooted in Europe and Asia than in the states, we’re still stuck in our Kickboxing ways and with the emergence of MMA it will take a while b4 we catch up to the rest of the world. >:-(

On a side note….doesn’t it suck that we (in the US) have to order good gear overseas???….Wuzzup wit that?? I had to order my Twins gloves from Thailand, my thai shorts from Thailand….and now it looks like I’m gonna have to order my ankle braces from there too…wut the hell?????? No twins, No windys unless u’re willing to pay those crazy hiked up prices. The only thing I can find plenty of are handwraps (thanx to western boxing).

ps:Sorry, just the rants and rambling of a Muay Thai fan.

Spydaman.. i’m not sure what you’re asking me. if you want me to be specific about the part of europe, i have to say geneva and neighbouring france.

nopstar, i’m not comparing it to thai or any other standards.

    :-S

Souvik…Seems like I over analyzed your statement or interpreted it the wrong way…lol…I didn’t mean to make a big deal about it. By the way…Nopstar……I luv this site, keep up the good work man.

I still think our boy, Paris, is much more entertaining than this a-hole. I hope to see Oscar shut him up but I’m not sure about that.

I train in Tokyo at Ihara Gym.
I dont know his full name but my old coach Yuk could jump rope like a madman with the thai weighted ropes. He retired a year ago though and is doing the standard bodyguard work now.
Hes the fella that KOed Ludwig in titans 1

man, i got married in Maryland and the closest gym was one of Sugar Ray Leonard’s gym’s in baltimore. So, i went in there and worked out for about a month and everyone there could skip like that! i was ashamed until i got to spar and figured out that my foot work and speed was up to par! i thought i was gonna get slaughtered, i didn’t think i would be able to catch anyone or get out of the way. thank God fighting and skipping are two different things! but, i will say, i wish i could do it! envy, yes!!! it just sucks because i get the worst shin splints from jumping rope? i’ve tried everything and about 3 days into jumping rope i can barely walk!
