Gym Cred. Take II
August 16, 2007 by nopstar
I had done a post a few month ago about how jumping rope can give you some gym cred.
The speed bag is another one of those things that instantly gives you a little gym cred, however short lived. I say short lived, because I can work the speed bag but can’t box worth a damn.
I enjoy working the bag, I find it quite meditative. I don’t know if it’s the sound, rhythm or the single minded concentration, but it’s quite calming.
Who knows if this guy can box, I give him points for having “Eye of the Tiger” on though. Oh yeah, for all of you TKD nuthuggers at my gym. The speed bag is for punching not kicking, damn bag has to be replaced every time one of you relives your point sparring glory days

Even spinning tornado kicks ala Van Damme in Bloodsport ??
Cmon man, that is fucking gym cred right there. Why you gotta hate? If you could do it, you would. I know Tong Po gets jealous as well..
I tell you this much its pretty annoying when they hit that speed bag.
I saw someone kick the speedbag just the other day. -10 points on who kicked it. wears pants and did TKD. I can’t even kick the damn thing- my nads thank me for that.
On another note, the speed bag, while looks cool and does have some application with coordinating punches does not in itself make a badass boxer.
You just jealous SULI!!
Imagine how much money he can make if he posts up at Fisherman’s Wharf or Pier 39 with a stand-alone speed back and performs for tips..
I did TKD for 13 years and I’ve never looked at a speed bag and thought “Hey, I should try to kick that”. Then again most TKD people annoy the shit out of me, which is mainly why I quit.
On topic though- I have zero speed pag skills. I guess it is one of those things that comes with time and practice.
I hear tell that Ninja Bob has mad skillz with the speed bag using only his ninja mind power to hit it. Sometimes Ninja Bob’s concentration is so intense that the speed bag explodes.
Ninja Bob also says, “You should never criticize other styles of the Martial Arts. All Martial Arts are good although you may like one better than another. ” So, if he caught you making fun of TKD Myron, he’d definitely explode the shit out of you…
I remember the TKD guy, Nopstar. I like how he used the ENTIRE studio. He really explored the space. A flying kick here, a spinning doohicky there, some “weight training” thrown in for good measure. And he did it all in those fashionable pants. I was impressed.
OK We have to create a calling tree to alert everyone of “Super Foot’s” presence.. i don’t want to miss another guest appearance.
i can keep a sad and slow rythm going on the speed bag but that’s it. i’m not a fast guy anymore.
as Apidej told me while pointing to my leg “heavy”. atleast i hope he was pointing to my leg…
