Guinea 8 man Semi-final and Final
December 31, 2008 by nopstar
Here is the rest of the Guinea 8 man tournament. I was on K-1 fans and read that Lamsongkram was disqualified for elbowing Gunyar. Lamsongkram was allowed to continue as Gunyar couldn’t continue.
Here is the 2nd semi and the Finals for the tournament.
“2nd Semi-Final Match”
Yohan Lidon vs. Yodsanklai Fairtex
Many thanks to StackMo for the uploads!
“Tournament Final”
Lamsongkram Chuwattana vs. Yodsanklai Fairtex

yohan lidon and yodsanklai: best fight of the tournament. yohan is a tough muthaF&Fer. i can see what spyda was talking about with songkram and yod. was that what you were alluding to spyda? i attribute it to more to “analysis paralysis” for song bc he didn’t want the pain that yod brings to the parties.
songkram seems to try and negate all of his opponents advancements and then push forward when he feels more confident. yod walks through songkram’s defense so songkram doesn’t ever go into full attack with the elbows but his knees don’t look held back in any way when thrown into yod. he just got outpunked by a bully with immense technique. i love how yod blasts you with a round house then fakes the roundhouse while his opponent cringes for impact and then yod scoots to his opponents left and rips uppercuts straight left and then leg kick or left knee. okay i’ll shut up…
I don’t buy it.
anyone else have horrible play back quality for the final?
Love watching Yod work. I am trying to dream if somehow I was to try to advise someone how to try to deal with Yod what I would suggest as a strategy. Don’t have much as he is a tough mother fucker and is technically sound.
However as noted above it does look like a lot of the time he opens up his opponent with his huge left kicks and then steps in with the hands.(especially when its K1 style rules) I guess I would suggest going after his lead leg to try to nullify him throwing that huge rear kick all the time.
Anyhow that me playing fantasy trainer for a bit.
Yod vs Lam…
Everything could be ended very quick, if you absorbed a hard uppercut. And this is Yod with super hard punches we’re talking about. I think Yod hit him in the nose and that is we all know very painful.
Yod vs Lidon…
First round was good, in the second Lidon turning into a punching bag pretty quick. Lidon showed nice hands, but Yod slowed him down with his kicks. After that, Yod started doing his magic stuff and again used his uppercuts to effect – classic.
Btw, what kind of rules were allowed here? Everything allowed except elbows?
Souwer and Frenchie Raffik both tried hitting his lead leg to discourage his left kick. It worked for a bit but he also has great hands and sharp reflexes. Plus his kicks are consistent no matter how early or late in the fight. Tough, I imagine. to keep trying to out time his kick wiht a lead leg chop when he never slows down. Also, Yods does well with just his hands and a left leg. Interesting to note that he also has the right leg, elbows and clinch when his opposition gets used to his style. And look at vids of him training, his right leg is just as strong
Compared to other technical masters, I think he is an incredibly simple fighter to watch. it is amazing to see how dominant he can be with 3 weapons when alot of others use all 8. Oh well..great vids to bide my time, thanks for the uploads
Yod yod yod, I get more scared of him, every new thing I see with him. He is a Effen Monster, those Dodges, uppercuts, kicks, and he didnt even use all 8 weapons! CAN anyone beat him right now???? Exept Heavieweights of course, But I would like to see him in K-1 vs all the “Top” names. His boxing would be good in K-1 and more money for Yoddy!
I haven’t watched all of the Yod Lamsongkram bout but thought that the Lidon fight was decent. I thought the referee gave pretty quick counts, granted Lidon was getting some hard shots but he didn’t look too wobbly at first. Lidon seemed to have a decent southpaw strategy, right kick (both to the lead and to the upper body) and to use the hands. His kicks looked like they were coming a bit straight up and so didn’t cause as much damage as Yod’s. Lidon did much better than I expected.
Yod’s boxing is really simple but nice. It looks like he really picks his shots, he’s a very pared down fighter who is elegant in his simplicity.
yod, wat a brilliant fighter! At first I thought Lam was going to keep yod away with his long knees..but yod worked out a formula right away…and wat a nice liver shot when his rear hand was caught…this is something masato & buakaw couldn’t do when sato keeps throwing those blindless long knees…
Played the last bit of the finals video. Czh25 if you were refering to the last body shot the knocked Lam down it was actually just a strong body shot as the liver is on the right side. Still a beautiful finish however.
GrChChinaman, that’s exactly what I was saying….take a look at the kicks Lamsongkram threw at Yod (snapped kicks with no power as oppose to true MT kicks)….Now go back to watchin his kicks vs Villaume…..there’s a very big difference. I can’t help but wonder. On the other hand, you are completely right about the knee seeming to not have been held back. This was just a weird fight. I don’t wanna seem like one of those who are quick to call “rigged fight” when their favorites get beat but I love both fighters the same. It just seems weird.
In my opinion, the final would have ended with Yodsanklai as the winner even if this tournament allowed elbows.
However, I think Lamsongkram would have been made it MUCH closer if it were FTR…He might have even won himself, but lets not go there.
Yodsanklai has enough skill in his hands and kicks to do without elbows, but Lamsongkram’s elbows are just so integral to his game. He’s pretty good at passing through the guard and landing them. Without it, he doesn’t have much to counter someone who punches as well as Yodsanklai.
But anyways, Yodsanklai did not disappoint…he’s just so incredible to watch. I would like to see a rematch with elbows though.
Spydaman I see what you mean, about the Yod vs Lam fight looking weird. at about 1:19-1:23 Lam throws a snapping high kick that looks like espically funny
* but if pause it at the right spot you can see yod blocked it, so I don’t think the fight was rigged
