My Muay Thai

The Rants and Ramblings of a Muay Thai Fan

Episode 7

March 5th, 2008 · 75 Comments

As you know stage6 has gone bye bye. Nearly all of my vids were hosted there. Like a complete dumbass I didn’t really back up a lot of my clips so… it may take me a while to find the older episodes and get them loaded into veoh.

Important:
To view the whole episode in its entierty you will probably have to dl the veoh tv application.  (VeohTV is a small downloadable application that lets you watch full-length video from Veoh.com) I don’t have anything to do with Veoh, I’m not getting any kickbacks for you dl their app.  I’ve chosen it because they don’t have any file size restrictions.  I’ll cut this episode into three chapters tonight if you don’t feel like dl the the veoh tv app.

Anyway I haven’t had a chance to watch this yet… so nothing really to say except enjoy.

Nop, please do cut it up…veoh isn’t available for Mac users yet, so I’m out of luck.

  • 2 Shadyeskimo // Mar 5, 2008 at 5:36 am

Wow what a unlucky time and a damn Shame, Zach Looked pretty more than Decent, Zidov was in trouble BIG TIME. But was it the fit shoulder that popped Out? Looks like he has weak shoulder joints or something. He might suffer from shoulder problems for the rest of his Carrier. Thats NOT Good for any athlete. But he did posses skills. Hope he bounces back and becomes a great fighter, but Zidov was a bit weird just standing there offended that Zach kicked him, What did he expect LOL

  • 3 nopstar // Mar 5, 2008 at 6:28 am

    TexMT

turns out you don’t have to download anything… you can watch the whole thing in this video player. I’m running a mac and it works fine.

  • 4 yknocka // Mar 5, 2008 at 9:04 am

I felt so bad for Zach. He looked great in the first round and a half. I knew nothing about the guy and frankly, I thought he was going to be a bum. His technique impressed me and I’m sure he can have a pretty good career if he can get over those shoulder pops.

btw- what is the difference between the headresses? is it a buddist vs muslim thing?

  • 5 Gusnark // Mar 5, 2008 at 9:42 am

    Nop,
why don’t you use some torrent site to dl episodes, at least the old ones?

  • 6 DaleMacK // Mar 5, 2008 at 10:24 am

Not for me I can’t few it and I don’t really want to download it because I don’t know about getting a bug ?!?!?!
Will I get one if I download it ???

  • 7 frank // Mar 5, 2008 at 10:27 am

I was super choked when Zach’s shoulder popped. I was really routing for the guy. He seems really nice and his technique was crisp. Like the trainer said “you’re boxing beautifully!”
Hats off to Zidov for being humble and saying that he didn’t want to win like that…. unlike a certain dutch monster lol.

  • 8 Suli // Mar 5, 2008 at 10:33 am

Zach is the man he was fighting real nice and clean. Zidov got lucky man. and that shoulder problems is not joke i have the same problem that shit hurts when it pops out.

  • 9 Gusnark // Mar 5, 2008 at 11:55 am

DaleMacK, what bug, are you talking about a virus?
You can’t get a virus via video clip. I can send you via mail where I dl it. Don’t want to post it here for the site’s sake.

Only getting first 5 min for solme reason???

  • 11 JOE // Mar 5, 2008 at 2:30 pm

See even Jabba thoguht he lost the fight with David. This show needs judges that have a clue. Who is judging this thing? American Idol Judges?

  • 12 JOE // Mar 5, 2008 at 2:30 pm

I can only get first 5 minutes too.

  • 13 Shane // Mar 5, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Veoh works perfect, don’t cut it up

  • 14 Gr Ch Chinaman // Mar 5, 2008 at 3:40 pm

damn. that sucks bollocks to have an injury like that. he has the style of young teen thais. zidov was starting to put mad pressure on him though.

  • 15 TexMT // Mar 5, 2008 at 4:07 pm

Nop, I was able to watch the first 5 min (a little over 5 min actually) - when JWP is talking about how Jabbar was disappointed in his performance - and then it cuts out. When I clicked on the video, it took me to the veoh website, which said it was only a 5 min preview and that I needed to download the player for the full version. When I tried to do that it said the beta version for the Mac is coming soon. So far, I haven’t been able to watch the whole thing. Were you able to watch more than the first 5+ min on your Mac, Nop?

Thanks for looking into this. I’m loving the Contender videos.

On another note, when is the next Alter Center training post coming?

  • 16 TexMT // Mar 5, 2008 at 4:15 pm

jknocka: I presume you’re asking about the headdress Jabbar wore versus the ones all the other fighters wear. I’m guessing Jabbar’s represents his Muslim faith, considering they went into his faith and how it affects his fight ritual. The headdress the others wear is a traditional Thai mongkong, which does have Thai Buddhist meaning.

Different camps treat the mongkong differently. In some old school camps I’ve seen, the fighter is not allowed to touch his mongkong; it is handled exclusively by the trainer. That is how my kru handles ours (we have one all our fighters wear for the wai kru). It always surprises me when I see the fighters put their own mongkong on or adjust it with their gloves. And my kru will let the fighters touch the prajiat (armbands) but admonishes us not to let a woman touch them.

What about you guys? Any traditions involving mongkong or prajiat, et cetera?

  • 17 KoolGuy // Mar 5, 2008 at 5:19 pm

To watch the full lenght, you need to download Veoh Tv.

Wow man, Zidov fight so stiff, looks like he been training for couple months only lol Zidov dont have no skills at all seriously.

  • 18 Stack // Mar 5, 2008 at 5:43 pm

“Veoh works perfect, don’t cut it up”

    Seconded.

  • 19 frank // Mar 5, 2008 at 5:53 pm

We don’t have rules like “no touching your mongkon” but we don’t let them touch the ground, and treat them with respsect.

  • 20 Grake // Mar 5, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Yeah.. the mongkon is for Muslim and Zach, Jabba and Soren are all in Thailand for the moment. Zach recently just won a Thailand fighter in Thailand by a TKO. While Jabba also recently fought a fight… but no updates on his progress yet

  • 21 Gr Ch chinaman // Mar 5, 2008 at 8:30 pm

this fight reminded me of sakmongkol when he was the victim of a similar situation. enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqhH9o9jjpY

I’ll do some chopping this week/weekend. I had issues with it as well. I had the original wmv file, so I had to watch it that way… do you have parallels or fusion?

Anyway did you guys check out who was giving zach a rub down in the beginning of the show? You might not recognize him because he’s put on some weight. I’m pretty sure that’s Namsaknoi… I bet he could still school half those guys.

  • 23 Shane // Mar 6, 2008 at 12:02 am

    episode 8 anyone?

  • 24 greg // Mar 6, 2008 at 12:20 am

If you download the torrent you can be sure of the quality, and you can keep the file too. I haven’t gotten a bug on my computer since I stopped using Limewire. Torrents are safe, in my experience.

Zach did well and I thought he was going to pull off an upset (because everyone counted him out from Day 1). In round 2 when his shoulder popped, Zidov suddenly became the ‘crazy’ guy he claims to be and really picked up the pace. I’m sure he is glad he won the fight but is not happy that Zach looked better than him in the first 1 1/2 rounds for all the world to see!

  • 25 Shane // Mar 6, 2008 at 12:30 am

I actually tried to play the whole thing and I too am having that 5 minute thing happen…but I don’t think it has to do with veoh…because the yod vs. souwer fight worked great all the way through

  • 26 PopTart // Mar 6, 2008 at 2:08 am

Yup, I have the same problem on my mac too. Can’t download the veoh app. and it cuts off as a 5 min preview. Hope they fix this mac-ers prob soon!

btw, on the talk of the mongkong and prajiat, in a real early episode david was kicking something from the red team’s on the floor. Hope it wasn’t an armband!!!

  • 27 Gio // Mar 6, 2008 at 3:13 am

bad luck for zach. Saw a few other of his fights, and he’s got fantastic technique. It’s so nice to see a smart fighter, even with so little experience. Let’s hope we see more of him!

  • 34 SLAYER // Mar 6, 2008 at 11:32 am

I agree with what Gio said. Zack may be new to this game, but he seems to be a really cerebral fighter. He was picking Zidov apart. I see this sometimes, more often in MMA actually, where you’ve got guys with all kinds of skills and experience, but they still just rush in like a bull in a China shop and make stupid mistakes.

Zidov may be “crazy”, but good technique and intelligence almost always beats crazy. It’s a shame to see Zach go like this. On top of having excellent technique, he was a really nice guy, too.

  • 35 C // Mar 6, 2008 at 11:39 am

Guys, i’ve been using Veoh for a long time. There shouldn’t be any bugs or anything. But yeah it kind of sucks that you have to use their player to watch the full-length video. But the player doesn’t have any ad banners or pop-ups or anything. i’m not advertising for Veoh. i just likes digging online videos and comparatively i like Veoh more than many other sites.

I feel really bad for Zach. i like his techniques. That high kick to the head could’ve been a KO. Zach seems really out of luck that night. He should’ve not trained that hard. I feel for him coz i have a shoulder problem too. Either i train too hard or don’t train at all, it’s gonna hurt. There is a level of intensity that fits you. And it’s different for everyone. You just have to find out yourself.

  • 40 Spydaman // Mar 7, 2008 at 6:35 am

Now for Episode 7…I like Zidov he seem like a very nice and funny guy and I was rootin for him in the beginning of the episode, but that changed as soon as the bell rung…..Zach, is text book Muay Thai…I really didn’t expect him to be that good, but he surprised me. Sad about that shoulder I wish he coulda kept on goin like Sak did during his fight (thank you Gr Ch chinaman…lol).
We’ll hear more from him, I’m sure.

  • 41 ROBERT DE NIRO in the DEER HUNTER // Mar 7, 2008 at 7:19 am

For some reason the link isnt working and i cant watch any of the program, but i cant wait to see it, because, looking over the many comments people have made not only on this site but on others, Zidov has taken a bit of a pounding, a bit of a slating, and im curious to find out what he could have cdone or not done in the first round(which is traditionally slow paced and without action) to merit almost universal criticism!!!!!and also, i cant wait to see the boy zach in action because he must be shit hot, almost complete blanket praise for his technique, style, intelligence and personality for (and let me get this straight) one round of fighting?..(im really looking forward to seeing this masterclass round)..(hope he’s not being overhyped, muaythai doesnt need a david beckham, but im guessing so many messages of support for him are because he got injured, which i can understand )good effort on his part anyway he must have really been displaying some excellent skills, and sympathy towards him for the injuries, you have got to feel for these guys that are injury prone, must be hell for them…
Spydaman…what did zidov do that turned you off him @as soon as the bell went?’ is he really that crap….?.i have to see this program somewhere

  • 42 Ian // Mar 7, 2008 at 8:24 am

It’s not that Zach is a prodigy or anything. He just showed very nice technique for someone who has been labeled the underdog with the least experience out of all the fighters.

    That injury was a shame.

  • 43 spydaman // Mar 7, 2008 at 9:31 am

    Hi, Robert de Niro…..hunter,
Zidov’s style completely turned me off, I’m not a big fan of brawlers to begin with, but Zidov was just stiff, a lil sloppy if u ask me, Zach made him look like an amateur, he had no technique. Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy very much, because he seems like a really cool guy….but as far as him being ” one of the best fighter’s Muay Thai has to offer” I don’t think that’s cutting it at all. Of course when I said “as soon as the bell rang” I was just being funny.

  • 44 TexMT // Mar 7, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Finally able to see the whole episode and I agree with everybody about Zach…very surprising for only half a dozen fights. He showed crisp technique and good ring smarts. He shows promise to be a really good fighter if he can keep that shoulder problem under control.

As for Zidov, I agree with spydaman - nice guy, funny and a good addition to the show, but sloppy technique and more of a brawler than a technician. I’d rather watch a technician than a brawler any day. That’s where I am in my training - translating discipline on the pads and sparring into the ring.

  • 46 mike // Mar 7, 2008 at 7:07 pm

gosh i wish zidov was eliminated his techniques is bad and didnt even check zach’s kicks, he totally did not deserve that win his technique was nowhere near zach’s technique, also i wish he was elimianted cuz i cant stand another episode of listening to his accent

  • 47 Spydaman // Mar 7, 2008 at 10:47 pm

I actually like his accent….it makes me laugh…lol

  • 48 Zig Zach // Mar 7, 2008 at 11:14 pm

    Hey mymuaythai readers!!

Im not one for posting and writing on forums but all your kind words and compliments made me want to thank all of you. I really appreciate the positive feedback coz I know the people who visit this site are knowledgeable fighters, trainers and fans.

That night (and the competition was just not meant to be) Day 1s fall with Soren dislocated my right shoulder and Im pretty annoyed that it wasn’t mentioned at all in the show. I have no idea how my left dislocated tho??…Maybe coz I couldn’t do push ups and pull ups for about 2weeks before my fight..?

Yeah Zidov’s “crazy” style is not my favourite kinda fighter to fight, but you gotta do what it takes to win. There is a talk of me and him having a rematch at the finals so we both got something to prove.

Ive had surgery done on both shoulders in End of oct and 1st week Nov. They feel alright, but it doesn’t really mean it’ll NEVER happen again.

Anyways check out my blog I do a write up on every episode (yes even after I’ve left!!). If you wanna get in touch, please email me as the chatbox, and the comments are abit of a hassle when too many people write.

Once again thank you everyone for the kind words.
I know since being announce into the show alot of people doubted me but I know Im not a GREAT fighter but Im definetly not a bad one either =)

  • 49 Spydaman // Mar 7, 2008 at 11:29 pm

Zach, U are a very technical fighter, one would call u a tactitian and those to me are the most exciting to watch…the way they pick people apart is amazing. I’m sure you could have made it really far, everyone slept on you but one should never judge a book by it’s cover. I think you (and David) shoulda made it to the next round but everything happens for a reason, I am sure there are bigger and better things waitin’ for you. God Bless!

  • 50 Stack // Mar 8, 2008 at 2:03 am

Nice blog Zach. You fought well given your injuries.

  • 51 Shadyeskimo // Mar 8, 2008 at 9:06 am

Zach you have really good potential in my opinion, hope your shoulders never bother you again. Be Good.

Ok guys I will give you a taste of my stand up and let me know what you think.

Oh and if you’re still around Zach - rotator cuff surgery? I’ve had one of those. Not fun.

  • 57 Anonymous // Mar 9, 2008 at 3:22 am

I got a question. Is Monkongtong Soren’s real name? It sounds like Thai to me…

  • 58 Stack // Mar 9, 2008 at 3:33 am

    Old gym name anonymous.

  • 59 Spydaman // Mar 9, 2008 at 5:46 am

    Kame…….Hame…….Haaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

  • 60 TexMT // Mar 9, 2008 at 8:19 am

Anonymous: fighters in Thailand often take on the name of their gym as their last name. Hence Buakaw Por. Pramuk (Por. Pramuk gym) Yodsenklai Fairtex (Fairtex gym) and Soren Monkongtong (Monkongtong gym).

  • 61 BRUCE WILLIS IN 12 MONKEYS // Mar 9, 2008 at 8:32 am

TEXTMT…what you have said is correct but not in this case…Mongkongton isnt a gym. Ive met Soren and he told me its origin. He was raised as an orphan by MONKS in Tibet (hence the first part MONK). Once he reached 18 years old and could do the five finger exploding hand technique, the nearby villagers of ONGTONG offered him their fairest princess for marriage and he was soon after bestowed the honour of King of ONGTONG. It only stands to reason that that his fight name would become MONKONGTONG. (everybody laughed at him when they found out his first name (SOREN), and the humiliation saw him leave his life behind and sail for 40 days and nights on a raft he built himslef, before finally finding land at NUGGETS GYM in AUSTRALIA. The rest is history. and the moral of this story is, there isnt a mongkontong gym….just thought i would pass this tale on its fairly inspirational i’m sure you will agree….

  • 62 Spydaman // Mar 9, 2008 at 8:48 am

    bwahahahaha!…freakin’ hilarious story!

  • 63 Anonymous // Mar 9, 2008 at 9:13 am

Hi I’m the “Anonymous” who asked about Soren’s name. Yeah I know most Thai fighters take the name of their gym but I didn’t expect farang fighter to do so too. But that explains a lot. Thanks for the answer.

  • 64 Gusnark // Mar 9, 2008 at 10:30 am

I must admit that Soren speaks Australian pretty good! :)

  • 65 poptart // Mar 9, 2008 at 4:17 pm

  • 66 Zig Zach // Mar 9, 2008 at 6:15 pm

hahah lame abot Sorens last name but very creative!! It is up there with JWP’s joke telling skills!! =)

Mongkong Tong is Thai for GOLDEN DRAGON =) he goes by Soren NTG Eminent Air nowadays.

I had keyhole surgery and yeah…both shoulders being put in a sling one after another with 2 weeks apart was NOT fun!!!!!!!!

I’ll chat with you guys soon.

    LaterZ

  • 67 TexMT // Mar 10, 2008 at 5:17 am

Bruce - hilarious. Good stuff. Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe one day I’ll get to meet him and learn the exploding heart technique too! Anyone know where “NTG Eminent Air” comes from? That’s a pretty unique name in and of itself.

  • 68 TexMT // Mar 10, 2008 at 5:20 am

Okay, so I figured out half of my own question - he represents Eminent Air gym out of Bangkok (from the original My Muay Thai Contender Page with fighter bios …but the NTG?

  • 69 BRUCE WILLIS IN 12 MONKEYS // Mar 10, 2008 at 5:41 am

NTG represents Nuggets Gym mate, ive seen another fighter from there with NTG on his shorts, but i’m not sure exactly what the letters stand for, im guessing N for Nuggett, T (thaiboxing) and G for gym maybe…

  • 70 Tong Po // Mar 10, 2008 at 8:42 am

  • 73 Spydaman // Mar 18, 2008 at 5:55 am

Hi Zidov, I had no idea that you had only trained for 4years. I also didn’t kno about the weight difference. I also appreciate that your last statement. I don’t think u had the chance to show your full potential. I do respect you as a fighter..I just prefer Tacticians over Brawlers….it’s just a matter of taste. You are however one of my favorite characters (lol) in the show. Keep up the good work, Chok Dee!!!

  • 75 Spydaman // Mar 19, 2008 at 5:45 am

Hey…I’m glad that you took the time to write us here at MMT. I do have a question to ask you. There was a rumor going around that you actually learned Sanda and not Muay Thai…How true is that rumor???….Also Is Ole Laursen your trainer??…He appeared on the first trailer for COntender Asia, was he supposed to be in the show but couldn’t make it for some reason and sent you as a replacement?? I also saw Magomedov on the same trailer and I think that Dhzabar trains at the same place so I’m wondering whether some of these guys were really supposed to be part of the show or whether it was just meant to entice us to watch the show??…I kno this last question might not one that you are allowed to answer so it’s ok…just wanted to give my thoughts out to everyone.
Once again Zidov thank u for taking the time. The same goes to Zach and JWP.
