Episode 2

January 28, 2008 by nopstar

Big thanks to Shane for the heads up! My internet access has been spotty at best. The episodes just keep getting better. A huge thank you to Leexh for the post, I’ll return the favor soon.

I haven’t been able to spend much time on the blog, I’m hoping people aren’t posting any spoilers…

WTF i seen the episode a few days ago.. Could they not find a better fighter from the states?? i know we have some pretty decent fighters..

  2. strong-boy on January 28th, 2008 10:19 pm

Like I said before when i went to k-1 try outs I saw james fight I was not impressed I don’t know how he got this. He seems like he is a reel nice guy , but even at that time he kept throwing leg kicks which I did not think he wass good at. anyway suck for the U.S to represent like that.
do not mean to knock james but he needs to train more these guys are fighting beyond his level.
eventhough it’s edited it’s easy to see that.
hopet the next fight is better than this was.

  3. jerry on January 28th, 2008 10:43 pm

he counted in thai language also? Amazing…

  4. leexh on January 29th, 2008 1:06 am

no problem at all Nopstar. :)

Martinez looks pretty amateur compared to the other fighters but i thought he had some nice moves. there was a nice knee, if i rem correctly, when he managed to corner sean by the ropes. but i think, as bruce mcafie pointed out, you can’t bring emotions into the ring, gotta throw them all out.

how did the leg cramp come about anyway? sean wright really kicked the right spot?

  5. frank on January 29th, 2008 6:42 am

yeah looked like he got tagged in the calf when Sean went for his supporting leg. If you’ve even been cut kicked or swept hard, you’ll know what he’s talking about. The muscle spasms, and there’s pretty much nothing you can do about it.

  6. KoolKick on January 29th, 2008 8:20 am

Thanks for the Regular updation of contender asia episodes in my muay thai. I missed the episode last week and was expecting to see it in my muay thai site. Many thanks.

  7. Gusnark on January 29th, 2008 11:23 am

James totally disappointed. At the end I got this funny feeling like he wanted to lose. He was all happy in the backstage. Anyways, disappointing.

  8. Dan from Madison on January 29th, 2008 12:29 pm

Agree with Gusnark, very disappointing performance by the American – that certainly isn’t the best that the US has to offer.

Whatever happened to defense on those leg kicks? Or if you are getting lit up from range on the kicks, get in there and clench it up and work the inside? Either a poor coach or uninspired fighter. Or both.

  9. alekos87 on January 29th, 2008 1:08 pm

    what a smeared cuntttt

  10. TravisTheBeard on January 29th, 2008 1:59 pm

Am I the only one who is severely irritated with Rafik?

  11. BNMD on January 29th, 2008 5:30 pm

No, Rafik is a complete wanker. I can’t get enough of the “big mouth, little heart” from Yodsanklai; you could see Rafik got red in the face with that one. I hope he faces JWP or a truly lower-level fighter and just gets trolloped – especially if he is trying to screw his team and give himself the easy fight(s).

  12. Bunzy on January 29th, 2008 8:37 pm

haha, Raffik didnt know what to say when Yod said ” Hey Frenchie, Big mouth, Little heart.”. Raffik’s own teammates looking at him like , “yeah, you aint gonna say shit cause Yod not only beat you but made you quit. He made you give up! ”
Well, i guess that’s where the “little heart” come from.

  13. cap0 on January 29th, 2008 10:03 pm

first off, this show is a dream come true

second, i agree with you all about James but we def. cannot take anything away from Sean. His kicks were solid and it looks like he wasn’t the amateur the other competition thought him to be.

third, cannot wait for raffiks defeat!

  14. Gusnark on January 29th, 2008 11:44 pm

    Agree with cap0.
In epp 3 would be nice to see JWP team winning the battle and then someone kicking the shiit out of Rafik.

But that of course won’t happen, Rafik will have to wait, cause CA wouldn’t be such a fun watching anymore. We love to despise Rafik, hehe.

  15. Littleman on January 30th, 2008 9:51 am

my university library computer won’t let me download those dam plugins!!!

  16. Gusnark on January 30th, 2008 11:44 am

    Littleman,
maybe it’s enough just to install Divx Player, try it.

    KoolGuy,
damn… no one asked for any possible spoilers.

  17. Suli on January 30th, 2008 12:55 pm

You know Raffik is one of those guys who just likes to talk a lot of shit and cause shit… he is playing the game.. think how boring it would be with out a shit starter…

  18. MR. X? on January 30th, 2008 12:59 pm

koolGuy, your an arse hole, Y the fuck do u hav 2 spoil it 4 the rest of us?

u should call urserlf lame guy

  19. alekos87 on January 30th, 2008 1:20 pm

give me all the results koolguy u smeared cripple

  20. BNMD on January 30th, 2008 1:42 pm

    Suli:

I may agree with you, and I can totally respect playing the game. But, when you’re competing in something that’s as steeped with tradition as Muay Thai is, I think you need to show it a bit more respect.

And I can’t imagine this show being boring. Hard-ass training topped off with a fight between elite Nak Muays – it doesn’t get much better than that.

  21. Alexander on January 30th, 2008 2:33 pm

I know this isn’t news, but James is such a joke. He comes in at Master Toddy’s sometimes for private lessons and thinks he’s the shit. I was actually very surprised to see him talk up his family so much, because he always has 2 or 3 trashy looking girls with him. One day during a private lesson with Master Lookchang (ex-Lumpini champion), he got cocky and started trying all of this flashy shit on Lookchang to the point Lookchang was getting pissed. So Lookchang ducked down and gave a full on punch to the stomach. James drops instantly to the mat, and couldn’t continue the lesson claiming “i can’t breathe man, i just can’t breathe.” Everyone at the gym was just kind of snickering at him, so I knew he wouldn’t be lasting long on the show hahah

  22. Dan from Madison on January 30th, 2008 4:47 pm

I believe the story about Master Lookchang. My instructor is fairly tight with Master Toddy and talks about that gym a lot and has had a lot of lessons with Master Lookchang. I bet when Master Toddy saw that ep (if he did) and heard his name that he cringed. James can’t be even one of Master Toddy’s top twenty students.

hey! just got a link from a friend :)

i think there’s maybe one or two minutes that gets cut off at the end, but 95% is there, enjoy!!

  24. Matt Lucas on January 30th, 2008 7:46 pm

Its funny, I’m in thailand but can’t watch the show because my tv doesn’t have cable. I was only able to see the second episode because Nop brought it to the gym with his computer. I really ought to go back to the states to watch, fuck all this working out bull shit.

  25. Gusnark on January 31st, 2008 3:41 am

    Matt,
“fuck all this working out bull shit.” LMAO.

Well, we will just have to wait patiently for the next epp, won’t we. Yod and JWP all the way!

  26. Gio on January 31st, 2008 12:25 pm

Hey alexander, does that link work straight off? or do I need to download/buy something first?

  27. Ian on January 31st, 2008 1:28 pm
  28. Anonymous on January 31st, 2008 2:43 pm

U kno wut??….If any of you guys really watch reality shows…U should all know that there is always someone who plays the role of the antagonist. Rafik took that role in this show. It’s really common sense…I kno most of us on MYMUAYTHAI watch it for the art of Muay Thai,….but u also have those who watch it for the drama…and that’s where Rafik comes.

James was really disappointing and I really hate to say that because I was really liking the kid. He was really tense throughout the fight…Other than that I like the teep to the face and I like the flying knee….other than that I have to give it up to Sean…Crisp combos, killer leg kicks.

Don’t count Rafik out, the kid got manhandled by Yodsanklai but the guy is actually really good. Watch some of his HL or fights…his low kicks are absolutely venomous.

    Thanx for posting the vid.

  29. Tong Po on January 31st, 2008 3:10 pm

Great! Can’t wait for the next episode!

  30. spydaman on January 31st, 2008 3:14 pm

Last comment was from me…my bad!!

  31. Alexander on January 31st, 2008 3:20 pm

Gio, the link is like any Rapidshare or like program. They try to get you to buy the “deluxe” version, but just wait the 45 seconds under the free column and download from there :]

  32. yknocka on February 1st, 2008 12:17 pm

great 3rd episode. thanks for the link.
i wish it had previews for the next episode.

  33. Aaron on February 1st, 2008 3:06 pm

Episode 3 is a Great fight and great episode.

  34. BNMD on February 2nd, 2008 7:01 am

I can’t view Episode 3; it says something about not having the right codec or something. Anyone computer savvy and know how to get it to play on Windows Media Player?

  35. Gusnark on February 2nd, 2008 8:39 am

BNMD, then you have to install missing codec. If your file extension is e.g. “.divx” then you need to install divx player.

  36. Shane on February 2nd, 2008 12:19 pm

I found it really hard to watch the episode 3 fight, it’s hard to watch raffik, he’s all over the place, too slow at times and just too uncontrolled.
Glad we don’t have to watch him anymore, thanks JWP.

  37. Peter Moon on February 2nd, 2008 3:39 pm

for those that havent watched it yet and read Shane’s comment…sorry fo’ya, surprise is ruined.
What part “no spoilers” does the MMT community not comprehend?
Rafik is a hilarious trash talker that everyone loves to hate…i wonder if the producers “asked” him to be the bad guy.

  38. Peter Moon on February 2nd, 2008 3:40 pm

what the F*** is wrong with GayGuy!? why is he posting this sh*t!?!? someone ban this mutha’ lover RIGHT now.

  39. TravisTheBeard on February 2nd, 2008 7:20 pm

There is no possible way for KoolGuy to know the outcome of the next fight. The show airs Wednesdays.. and yes, in the preview it looks like Preacher and Yod will go at it, but the way the show is going that could change.

Though not the best fight I’ve seen JWP have, it was still a decent match. With the theme music and all it was hero worship defined…

  40. alphadog on February 2nd, 2008 10:14 pm

travis, all the fights have been flimed already save the finale. so koolguy is just one wanker that wants to show off that he been to the fights.

kool u stupid piece of shit i thought u said 4 was david. dumbass

  41. TravisTheBeard on February 3rd, 2008 2:44 pm

That sonofabitch! I figured they’d been filmed already due to JWP’s fight with Kozo. I’ve got a mental block on any KoolGuy comments from here on out…

  42. Shane on February 3rd, 2008 3:28 pm

Sorry if i spoiled anything for anyone, thought everyone has seen episode 3 by now. Won’t happen again

  43. Grouch on February 3rd, 2008 10:46 pm

    Shane, u suck!

  45. Dii Mak on February 4th, 2008 7:04 pm

    Hey Guys,

Just chiming in on this episode. With all the douche-baggery of spoilers, I am giving it plenty of time for people to catch episodes.

So an interesting aside on the Sean the scottish guy. I am not sure about this, so if anyone knows Sean’s background please feel free to validate. A few years back I was in this small sleepy beach town a couple of hours from BKK :-) Anyway, I was at an outdoors beer bar and they had muay thai on a projected big screen. Fighting was a thai vs. a farlang. I was very surprised to see the white dude, not only holding his own, but they were straight trading big elbows. It was a great fight, really a back and forth battle. It almost looked like it was a Kings B-day fight, as they were fighting at an outdoor venue. Anyway, the farlang had mad skills. I remember the big back tattoo. I think it was Sean from the show. Can anyone confirm how many times Sean has fought in Thailand and if he has fought thais before?

  46. muay dane on February 5th, 2008 12:18 am

anyone now episode 4 will be releast

  48. just passing by ;) on February 5th, 2008 4:12 am

Dii Mak, I don’t know if that was sean you saw (although i hope so, coz it will be interesting to know that he has a load of hidden talents underneath hehe) but he did fight in WMC’s king’s and queen’s birthday celebrations in bangkok (as what was written in http://thecontenderasia.com). ;) so who knows, maybe it is him.

i like sean, i think he’s a great sport–judging by what he showed in the second episode. :)

    that’s all and thanks! ^^

Yodsenklai fans, this week is a must see…..Eak won’t be at the Fairtex clubhouse get together Wednesday for you fans down under he is in New Zealand.

  51. Stack on February 6th, 2008 6:15 pm

You guys are losing your mind over some fairly horrible unoriginal programming and a dumb premise: “To determine the best Muay Thai kickboxer in the world”. Out of this bunch? Are you eff U See Kay – ing kidding me? People are more gullible every day.

As for the show itself whoosh. It’s hilarious how some of these guys are represented here and it’s really so far from the truth. Basically everyone painted into being the ‘good guy’ or ‘loving father’ isn’t and the guys painted as the villains aren’t.

Good for MMA fans and guys that heard of Muay Thai yesterday while fanticizing about being the next ultimate fighter. For real Muay Thai fans and adults older than 18 I do not recommend this.

  52. Mike on February 6th, 2008 6:37 pm

I disagree with Stack. True, the “drama” angle is annoying and the “best in the world” just a tad over-reaching, but without it the show would never have even made it on TV. I’m just happy to see muay thai spreading. Bastardization of the art is certain, but it’s the best way for the art to progress. And for those of us in the US (I’m in Texas) there’s not a lot of muay thai on TV (try next to none), so I’m happy for what I get.

  53. Stack on February 7th, 2008 11:52 am

You disagree with me on precisely the demographic and reason I mentioned. This reality show does not represent Muay Thai And I know 3 of these guys and can tell you they are nothing like the show represents them to be.

Good for people for whom Muay Thai is a new word for them. Not so good for people who are real fans of Muay Thai. Also WTF is up with them constantly calling it Muay Thai kickboxing??

  54. Iman on March 30th, 2008 5:04 pm

hey does anyone have a download link for episode 2? i’d really appreciate it.

stack…can u be more spesific about the 3 guys u know and how they’re nothing like the show represents them to be?
