Episode 10

March 25, 2008 by nopstar

Watching this episode makes me miss training big time. I’m so out of Muay Thai shape it’s really quite pathetic. Props to Benjozg for the upload.

I was looking over your comments in the Aukem trailer…nice call with Street Fighter… did you guys check out Sean’s Hadoken? Nice… I wasn’t entirely surprised with the outcome of the fight though. I thought for a second he was going to get cocky and get caught with that stiff right cross.

Woohoo I am the first commenter! Awesome…

I was not suprised either. I feel though that Sean doesn’t have a nice technique of fighting like Yod, Naru or Soren have. He seemed to run a little too much and it didn’t look professional. Lets see what happens in the next episodes!

  2. alphadog on March 26th, 2008 3:13 am

yeah sean’s posture is kinda wierd. like he is tip toeing on both feet with his arse out. but he hits real fast and goes in and out real quick. effective

  3. TexMT on March 26th, 2008 4:34 am

I agree that Sean isn’t up there with Yod, Narupol, or Soren, but I think he’s solidly on the next tier down from them. I was really impressed with his technique in the first fight and this fight didn’t do anything to change my mind. He wasn’t as crisp, but anytime you’re fighting a heavy-handed opponent it tends to change things. He did a good job of hitting and moving to keep away from the knockout blow. And he must have some serious power to stop Yukay with a straight body-blow and a leg kick. Good stuff.

  4. TexMT on March 26th, 2008 4:35 am

And I wondered if anyone would bring up Seans hadoken…I’ve seen stomping, pointing, and arrow shooting…now I’ve seen it all.

  5. Shane on March 26th, 2008 5:16 am

This was one of the better fights of the competition for sure

  6. Shadyeskimo on March 26th, 2008 9:08 am

Nice Fight, Better than a lot of the fights earlier. Sean did good but Joakim wasnt all bad, so good one. Did think Sean was going down a second cause of the Slowmotion and Suspence music in the fight. But lets see him against Yodsanklai.

  7. Gusnark on March 26th, 2008 9:25 am

Sean did a good job. He’s little stiff, maybe not too technical, but better than Yukay for sure. Has good stamina and is very strong. He’s definitely a surprise in this tournament.
Next fight should be very interesting and even, if Zidov is not fighting. I think Zidov has no chances to get through this time.

  8. Shane on March 26th, 2008 10:05 am

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I kind of miss the challenges. It felt like the episode just dragged on…too much talking. The episodes need some kind of middle filler, either more training footage or something.

  9. TexMT on March 26th, 2008 12:22 pm

The episodes do drag a little bit without the challenges. I’d like to see more footage of them training, not just some montage series of shots with a voice over about how fighters are spying each other for upcoming fights. I’d think Fairtex would push for more training shots too since it’s all their gear.

    epp 11 also

  16. Anonymous on March 26th, 2008 2:51 pm

Thank you Ian for the link! I personally look at JWP as a big bully with no technique for muay thai. imo

  17. darknest on March 26th, 2008 3:09 pm

and i supose his no technique got him were he is today or did he bully his way through, lol

  18. darknest on March 26th, 2008 3:15 pm

infact explain how you put him as a bully Anonymous or should it be Anonymouse

  19. Anonymous on March 26th, 2008 4:15 pm

This is Sean’s 2nd fight where his opponent couldn’t continue due to the leg kicks. He must be doing something right.

  20. darknest on March 26th, 2008 4:16 pm

cat got ur tongue lol sorry couldnt resist

  21. TwoThumbs on March 26th, 2008 4:41 pm

    JWP isn’t a bully !!!

  22. alekos87 on March 26th, 2008 6:47 pm

    low kick powa

  23. Greg on March 26th, 2008 11:27 pm

Hey, I was the Anonymous guy who said “This is Sean’s 2nd fight where his opponent couldn’t continue due to the leg kicks. He must be doing something right”, but not the guy who’s calling JWP a bully.

I just watched Ep 11 and I think it was great.

  24. Gusnark on March 27th, 2008 3:13 am

So Greg, you still think JWP is bully? He is technical, strong and has great personality. Hell, even Yod said that himself. Great to have him here.

  25. Gusnark on March 27th, 2008 3:15 am

Sorry Greg, that goes to Anonymous. :)

  26. darknest on March 27th, 2008 5:14 am

    lol

  27. Gio on March 27th, 2008 6:22 am

Jay dub-yah pee is a legend. Classic Australian muay thai. Not my style, but I know it works! :D

    Any italians out here?

  28. Greg on March 27th, 2008 7:25 am

I liked Sean’s style a lot. He doesn’t depend on power as much as JWP or Yod; he uses timing, distancing and speed to accomplish his goals. Very precise and speedy.

  29. Benny on March 27th, 2008 11:49 am

I’ve thought through the competition that Sean’s style was a little weird but it looks like it works pretty darn well. He has great kick power for sure. Sean’s got some juice but what’s up with ripping Bruce’s hairstyle off after Bruce gets beat?

i agree totaly he has something thats for sure

“I liked Sean’s style a lot. He doesn’t depend on power as much as JWP or Yod; he uses timing, distancing and speed to accomplish his goals. Very precise and speedy.”

Who are you? haha. Oh no, there are two Greg’s here now. I guess I’ll change my name. But Greg does agree with Greg. Sean is pretty quick. His kick’s are probably a lot more powerful than they look, based on the results.

  32. Gio on March 27th, 2008 5:18 pm

personally, I think the only person sean can’t take on at this point would be Yod. Classic underdog story, huh? from being picked last at the beginning of the competition to being one of the strongest in the final four…

Speaking of underdogs, ep 11 is truly inspirational…my favourite episode to date. That guy has so much heart. :D

  33. Ray on March 27th, 2008 6:55 pm

Gio I completely agree with you, ep 11 is inspirational. Talk about heart.

JWP a bully?! Perhaps. But then again, I think of anyone that punches me in the face as a bully.

  34. Greg W on March 27th, 2008 7:24 pm

Hey Greg, I’ll put my last initial to differentiate us.

  35. Greg W on March 27th, 2008 7:34 pm

I think JWP’s demeanor in the ring, and the fact that he’s so powerful makes it seem like he’s a bully, compared to someone like say, Sean, who depends on speed and accuracy to win.

  36. Chris on March 27th, 2008 9:49 pm

JWP is a bully, but hell so is Yod. But come on, it is a fight sport, get a life.

  37. Colargol on March 28th, 2008 4:09 am

I think Sean is good but at this point Soren is the real darkhorse threat. Dzabar might be stronger than Sean as well… We will see – it’s all coming to a boil now :)

  38. Colargol on March 28th, 2008 4:21 am

Also: LOL @ people who get influenced by the Contender’s ‘predator’ music during the fight and suddenly consider JWP to be a ‘bully’.

  39. Jamin on March 28th, 2008 4:26 am

its easy to forget though that Yukay was still carrying an injury from his last fight and Sean hadn’t fought in about 9 weeks….that can make a big difference.

I really like Sean’s style and disagree with people who say he is not on the same level as Yod, Narupol and Soren. Sean lives in Thailand full time and is the WMC champion…considering he’s only had 33 fights i think he’s well up there.

I predict that the semi finals will be Yod vs Sean and Dzahber vs JWP

  40. Cap0 on March 28th, 2008 6:15 am

haha pirate, Yoddy wanted to kick some ass and where’s the guy who was getting on JWP for having shingles. I hope he now knows that they were chicken pox.

  41. TwoThumbs on March 28th, 2008 7:49 am

“where are my shoes?? My green shoes??” Grrr … the pirate is angry! haha!

  42. Shadyeskimo on March 29th, 2008 12:24 pm

JWP a Bully?? I dont see it. I dont understand, he is joking a lot, smiling a lot, but not a bully…. Do you mean he tries to hurt his opponent, He he.

  43. darknest on March 30th, 2008 3:39 am

its one of the reasons i spoke out because by no means is he a bully and to use the word bully in muay thai is a very strong thing to say as for a lot of younger people in muay thai its a sort of anti bully and self deffence kids read these forums also and people should not send wrong signals

  44. GregH on March 30th, 2008 4:25 pm

I don’t understand how anyone can be a “bully” in combat sports. The point of any combat sport is to hurt your opponent. What defines being a bully in MT?

Now if JWP goes around the world fighting level C guys and knocking them out, then I guess that would make him a bully.

  45. Dan on March 31st, 2008 9:07 am

Another great show, Ep. 11. Glad he finally showed us viewers his skills especially when he is calm. Can’t wait to see the final four.

JWP a bully??? He is the friendliest member of the Tiger Kings.

  46. Chris on April 1st, 2008 9:32 pm

All I am saying is that in a sport where the ultimate goal is to physically hurt the other guy, calling someone a bully is a moot point.

i totaly agree it was sort of my point from the start
just watched epp 12 sort of disapointing but was the outcome i expected

  48. darknest on April 2nd, 2008 11:29 am

    GregH

    did you say

“Now if JWP goes around the world fighting level C guys and knocking them out, then I guess that would make him a bully.”

if the class c fighter is willing to take a shot thats up to him and as far as im concerned that makes it open season and to mention bully in that is total bs

  49. darknest on April 2nd, 2008 11:38 am

if u wanted a shot at a title and lost against him would you use the excuse he was a bully lol wake up and smell the coffee to many people hide behind crap like that

  50. GregH on April 2nd, 2008 4:27 pm

darknest: What I mean is if a pro fighter goes around challenging only fighters who are clearly many notches below him, just so that he can feel good about himself by beating the shit out of them, then I think he’s a bully.

About the title shot, I think there is a reason behind the system that determines who gets the title shot. In general, crap fighters do not get title shots because: 1. It’s a waste of time and money, and 2. They’re just going to end up getting hurt or killed.

I don’t think JWP is a bully, so I don’t know what this argument is about, hehe
