Drinking the Cool-Aid

This past weekend I was talking to some guys who had been training Krav Maga for quite some time. I was on youtube trying to find some clips when I stumbled across a few Systema clips. I’m always intrigued by military combat systems. Systema is a Russian Martial Art, which was used by their Special Forces. It looks like it’s a mix of Aikido, and some Ju-jitsu. Everything seemed to be in order, then I stumbled upon these guys.
I came across this clip, and something smelled like shit. To be fair I did come across some other clips that weren’t as hokey as this one, but I think this guy is the worst offender. Does this guy Ryabko remind you of anyone?
Personally, I think there has to be a few legit Systema instructors out there, other wise the entire Russian Special Forces is perpetuating a lie… I just don’t think it’s possible. I just think both these guys in the clips are completely full of shit.
I’ve asked this question before and I’ll ask it again. To pull this off he needs all those guys to play along. So what are they getting out of that? What motivation would you have to help perpetuate this lie? Why are they playing into it?
Do any of you guys have any experience with this?
Anyway, I wanted to leave you a clip of the real master. I’m pretty sure he studied at the same school with the other guys, their styles seem very similar.

I couldn’t bring myself to sit through the clips in their entirety. I felt like I was watching a bad production of Swan Lake. Once again another classic post Nop. Well done.
HORRIBLE!!!
Systema- the Russian stuntman, actor, and professional wrestler fighting system.
This junk is way too funny. Just give me a day of learning and a couple of puppets that fall at will and im already a master of this gay art form.
How fucking! ignorant you gotta be to sit in that class and watch this idiot!?. The last video was the best EVER!!!, i would actually pay to just watch religious loonies fall on the ground so i can laugh at them.
I have to side with Paul PP on that one. Except for his last comment.
Apparently everyone should strive to have the martial efficiency of Benny Hinn. He seemed to have learned the hadoken from Akuma himself.
I’d say Benny could take out the other two dudes . . . easy! He has superior hand speed, footwork and conditioning.
I have seen a live demonstration and taken a short seminar of this art by Emmanuel “Manny” Manolakakis in Saratoga New York. He is the real deal and a great martial artist. I am not sure about these clips but I saw it live and these guys were coming at him full speed and he was hitting them and throwning them pretty hard. He also had some people who were not his students come at him, people who were students of my uncle so I know they were not in on it and he was not a rough on them but just as effective. Like Nop said their are some legit Systema practitioners out thier.
O c’mon sydaman! aha, God is a fairy tale, creation is a cop-out, and
religion is an antiquated form of social control
I don’t wanna be standing next to you when lightning strikes…. U must be one of those who don’t Wai Kru/Ram Muay in the ring, but in all fairness, everyone has their own opinion but the last thing I wanna do on here is deviate from the subject at hands and turn this into a religious debate (we all hate those !). That systema looks really fake to me…..It also reminds me of Aikido, maybe we should put those guys up against Chuck Nor……I meant Steven Seagal and see how many of their bones he breaks before running outta breath…..Maybe I’ll do some real research to see what this style is very about……on second thought, I think I’ll pass.
I took Systema for a month after doing Muay thai for 7 years. In my opinion, I found the Systema training a crock of SHITE….Just because Vladimir was in the special forces you have students coming to class in army fatigues. His students move in on attacks so slowly and fall so easily, when I had my turn ay him it was quite different….Vlad is talented but some of the things he teaches are a joke
