Anytime anyone is trying to compile a list of top Nak Muays (yes, I’m still working on mine) Dieselnoi is a name that is always on the last. He was born in 1961, and just 20 years later he would become Lumpini Stadium champion.
Dieselnoi held the belt for over 4 years… it was apparently very difficult to get him any fights and was the primary reason for his retirement. Won of his challengers who also came up short was another Muay Thai legend Samart Pakayaroon. Dieselnoi was a lanky fighter and was widely regarded to have the most devastating knee attacks in Muay Thai.
Here is a clip of him working the pads. Also, many thanks to GKfromMTA for sharing this with all of us.
Damn, that’s how you work the long knee. His pad holder even looks like he’s had enough. I’m not sure if this is a demo, or what the scenario is… but I can tell you I’ve never seen Nak Muay’s at a Thai camp, all watching a fighter working pads. Clearly this was a special moment for them…

A trip down history lane. This is good stuff. Diesel is most infamous in the west for coming to the US and annihilating FC kickboxers.
Just my own opinion but this is a better fit for your site than anything K-1.

From what I’ve been told from a California promoter, Dieselnoi had come down to fight Peter Cunningham in 1984. Cunningham had beaten a Thai fighter by the name of Jonrob Muangsurin by KO and they primarily wanted Dieselnoi, the best of that Thai team to fight Cunningham, who was the best fighter on the American side. There was a switch up and Dieselnoi ended up fighting John Moncayo instead. John Moncayo was a super middleweight and Dieselnoi had weighed in with many rolls of quarters in his pockets. Other than that, I heard he had spend some time out in the Mid west of U.S.A. He actually taught american fighter, Dale Cook some of the Muay Thai knees.
Like all you guys, I wish there was more footage of Dieselnoi. Superfights at the 2 Thai stadiums during those times were not aired on TV. I would hope that there is some footage stashed in an archive somewhere.

Hey I found this video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jZtVZGm4zHc
It’s the same fighter right?
Cool to see him spar. Pretty tall for a thai by the way, isn’t he?

Part of the same footage… He was 6′1″ and spent a lot of time in the featherweight division coming up. He got his title in the Lightweight division from Kaopong Sittichuchai. He met Samart at a catch weight of 131lbs. Tall, but more-so huge for the division he was fighting in.

I started MT at the age of 38 so have no aspirations to get into the ring. Instead I put my energy into holding pads for the fighters at my gym. I have held pads for a lot of pro fighters, but I am telling you right now it can’t be pleasant for that poor guy holding pads for Dieselnoi. Yikes.

Those knees are vicious, thanks for the motivation, this is exactly what I need to start my week.

Dale Cook, I haven’t seen that name in forever.
He also got badly thrashed against Kiatsongrit.

i agree with stack…much prefer seeing the nak muays than k1 stuff…regarding the moncayo fight…am i the only one who enjoys seeing nak muays beating the crap out of western-style, long-pants wearing “kickboxers” ? changpuek vs. rick roufus comes to mind

I’ve heard about Dieselnoi, but never saw a footage. The guy is sick, I can feel trainer’s pain. Super fast, powerful and sick stamina.
