Corbett vs. Spong K-1 Rules?

June 10, 2009 by nopstar

I just came across this clip on fight geeks blog.  It’s an interview with Nathan Carnage Corbett.

I knew they had talk about this fight happening, and to be honest I hadn’t paid too much attention to what was happening in Jamaica.  I’ve been hoping for a longtime that this fight would happen.  Now that I know it’s going to be K-1 rules, I’m not really feeling it.  Don’t get me wrong I’m sure it’s going to be war, but not a MuayThai war…

Honestly if the facts are straight… Carnage is moving up in weight and isn’t allowed to use his elbows?  That is kind of horse shit.

Does anyone know, I know if Spong has ever fought Thai rules?   What do you think?

Spong fought FTR against a very undersized Nak Muay from Thailand. From memory I think it was Slamm 3. Keep in mind to this bout will be for the ever prestigious WMC Muay Against Durgs belt. No I did not make that up. WMC has more trinkets to give than parents on Halloween.

Awesome isn’t it? A Muay Thai title fought for under K-1 rules. WMC is really doing in their own credibility as quick as possible.

I saw this vid a while ago and asked around about it…
Spong Rarely fights full thai rules and if he did it wouldnt be against Carnage.
Worst part is thats Nathans best weapon, not only are they taking that away but he’s seriously cutting weight for the fight.

Sounds a little too one sided for me.

To make this fight have any meaning Spong should go full Thai rules. Won’t be considered a win for him if he beats Carnage under these conditions.

Is that fear that I smell? Spong shouldn’t have a Muay Thai belt if he doesn’t fight Muay Thai. Silly kickboxer.

It’s easy to lay all the blame at Spong’s feet for this. But even though Tyrone asked for the rules you have to remind yourself WMC granted the request. And the promoters want the fight to happen so who’s to really blame?

    Stack,
Spong is to blame because he asked for the rules first. Corbett really wants to fight Spong so he agreed to the terms. Granted that the WMC approved the rules, they never would have had to if Spong would have just fought Muay Thai.

Spong has some blame in this no question. But WMC should be in the business of enforcing policy and rules NOT helping a promotion make a fight. WMC’s role in this is beyond heavy handed when they render their own titles and style they represent meaningful.

pardon me that should read meaningless.

Yeah, I agree with you entirely. It’s sad what a sport will do for money.
