Civil Unrest

For those of you who are in Bangkok or heading to Bangkok, things may get interesting in the next couple of days. The PAD (Red Shirts) are planning on mass protests and demonstrations today. If you are in Bangkok or near one of the rallys, I would suggest you stay clear and to not get involved.
I’ve got friends in BKK who belive that the military will actually get involved, which always makes me a bit nervous. If you don’t know the situation, the Thai Supreme court recently ruled against the outsted prime minister and has subsequently seized his assests ($1.4 Billion). The Red shirts who are mostly rural Thais are supporters of Thaksin (former prime minister).
I sincerely hope things get resolved peacefully. If any of you are out there, stay safe and keep us posted.

I’m flying to BKK on tuesday!
hope this trouble is resolved by then
I arrive on April 1st so I hope all have this cooled down by then. Political unrest is why canceled my last trip last April… Not this time around. I’ll be there no matter what. As long as they don’t occupy the airport again. :)
All is calm, for now. Just stay away from mass gatherings, Krung Thep is big enough, and you’ll be fine.
they say the worst of it should be monday ish. then hopefully will be over after that. i hope.
I thought that they were protesting because Thailand was too hot.
i kid.
A friend of mine just had a baby, so I’m going to head to the hospital to make sure that the parents are OK. I’ll let you know the state of things.
(If I never reply, you know that things went really wrong. heh)
Well, it’s about now that the government is meant to announce if they will hold a new election or not… my 4t is not. If the reds then kick of, the military might have to step in… but we should know soon enough.
Interestingly, I’ve spoken to quite a few Thais who are thinking of going just because they’re bored or curious… not because they support Thaksin.
For those worried about coming, don’t be. I’ve been in BKK for the last few days and haven’t seen a thing (I’ve probably seen less people wearing red than usual!)
It’s the UDD that wearing the red shirts. The PAD where yellow…
well… we were worried it would get bloody, but not quite like this :(
At least they could do is give the blood they’re drawing to the hospitals… not poor it on the government steps. What a waste.
