Chuwattana Gym Update

Chuwattana Gym, Bangkok, is currently undergoing renovations.   Although the Thais are currently training at another location, the gym proper is unusable.  Construction completion date is slated for March/April 2010.

For those of you who were planning on training here, I suggest contacting the gym via the website.  They will train Foreigners at the new location; however, they no longer can provide accommodation.  Currently, the house nak muays are living by the gym and traveling to the new location twice daily.

The renovation is an expansion.  More area to train, more amenities to accommodate nak muays.  Training will no longer be affected by the rain as the gym will be completely indoors.  If I understand the building plans correctly, the change is positive.  The old gym definitely needed some revamping.  I was happy to see the tiles in the t.v./training room disappear in the demolition.  Too many people were bailing on them while doing pads.  I’ve been told by some that there will be two rings; I’ve also been told that there won’t be.  Ladies, I have no idea what this will mean for us (as we’re not allowed in the ring).  Initially, I had heard the second ring was going to be female inclusive….?

As for me, Chuwattana has been my home for approximately nine months now, although I haven’t trained in the last two, due to re-breaking my hand/not letting it heal correctly.  As a result, I have no idea what the temporary training conditions are, nor will I; if all goes according to plan, I’ll be training in Buriram within a month.

None of the guys have complained about the new conditions when asked.

Currently the new, temporary location is near Hua Lamphong Station (MRT).

Note, this is Thailand, things could change by the time I finish this entry.  If you want to save time, do your research.  Again, I suggest contacting the gym via the website.

    address of chuwattana gym proper:

    258/5-6 mahajak rd.

    pomprab, bkk.

checked the current location. it’s outside, under an overpass. i liked it. it’s about 2km from the permanent gym – so you can run it if you decide to live near/with everyone else.

a couple foreigners were here for a few days and sleeping in the temp location. it’s possible, but from my understanding, currently everyone’s sleeping on the floor – there may be beds set up by march. again, no clue.

if you can’t find their email, i suggest just showing up at the address i listed and figure things out from there.

Awesome they are fixing up the place.. I personally never been there, but there is nothing better than a gym improving.

Good luck to all of you who are training at the Chuwattana camp. I am hoping to go there sometime next year.

His (the frenchman who “turned Lam’ s swag down”) name is Yohan Lidon, Pinca’ s team mate, from St Fons (Lyon)…
Yeah he’ s kind of rough, but I definitely prefer Pinca’ s style, a calm warrior as I like!!!
Big up to Nope and all the community out there from South of France.
Here is his fight against Yod:

hey ryan – ..i can’t remember the pricing, but i believe it is approx. 500 baht per day for training 2x/day…i did a post on chuwattana on mmt awhile ago. plug the name of the gym in the search engine. it should come up (and will have training fees).

thanks araya – no idea what camp i’ll be at in buriram or how long i’ll stay. i also may not find what i’m looking for and come back to bangkok.
