There have been some reports about a possible re-match between Giorgio Petrosyan and Buakaw Banchamek.
I’ve just confirmed that they Thai Fight are indeed looking to put this fight together. The match up would take place on February 7th to coincide with Muay Thai day in Surin (Buakaw’s hometown).
Apparently they’re going to offer Petrosyan 2 Million THB or approximately 64,000 USD to take the fight.
Until it’s signed I don’t see this happening. Firstly, Petrosyan has a good thing going with Glory, if he fights in Thailand and doesn’t KO Buakaw he’ll lose.
Its rather ambitious of the team Buakaw… he hasn’t fought anyone of Petrosyans Calibre since he fought Andy Souwer in 2009. Not sure why Thai Fight would want to throw their hero under a truck like that, do they actually think he can win?
What do you guys think? This happening?

“Not sure why Thai Fight would want to throw their hero under a truck like that, do they actually think he can win?”
They’ve fought once before under K-1 rules and that resulted in a draw. This new fight will supposedly be under full thaiboxing rules and if so Petrosyan will get completely tooled.

Puangsawan
That fight was In 2007, with buakaw in his prime. Petrosyan has come a very long way since… full Thai rules or not it would be buakaws greatest challenge in years.
August 29, 2012 at 8:57 am
in 2007 they fought 5 rounds of full muay thai rules because the opponent scheduled for buakaw was john wayne parr (petrosyan was a last minute replacement). Petrosyan knows muay thai, and can be defeated only by Sudsakorn (because is smart), Kem (because is brutal) and maaaaybe Saiyok (he’s crazy). I don’t see Buakaw landing a single shot on petrosyan
August 29, 2012 at 2:35 pm
Buakaw would easily pick him apart. This is FTR, not Kickboxing.
August 29, 2012 at 2:53 pm
Elbows were illegal in Sweden at the time of that fight so no, they did not fight under full thaiboxing rules. The clinch was also broken quickly after the first knee was thrown which leads me to believe it was K-1 rules.
As talented Petrosyan is you have to acknowledge that under Muay Thai rules/scoring (i.e. kicks score higher than punches) he has a puncher’s chance at best.
August 29, 2012 at 3:22 pm
Agreed 100%. Petrosyan knows this, Thai Fight knows this, Buakaw knows this. The only party not wanting to be involved is Petrosyan.
August 28, 2012 at 8:17 pm
will it be under the 3 round format?interesting match up I think Buakaw still wins this but it will definately be a full on fight.Cant see him getting knocked out so think he could putt it out of the bag but it would be close.Think Id rather see someone like Kem fighting him under full thai rules?Or Sudsakorn?
August 29, 2012 at 1:00 am
with full thai rules i would have to go with Kem as the best fighter to fight petro. hes brutal with his weapons.
yeah this fight aint happenin. petro’s current record via wiki is 71-1. and the fight he lost was in lumpinee stadium…so yeah i dont think 64k is enough to ruin his record.
August 29, 2012 at 4:28 am
It looks like they have set a date for this.. Feb. 6th in Surin, Thailand. Also there’s mention of Sudsakorn facing Pinca!!
Should be a good card most def..
August 29, 2012 at 6:19 am
thai fight is lureing petrosyan to the lions den with the bait of 64k.. Petrosyan is smart enough to know he will lose in surin if he doesnt dominate or ko buakaw.. Buakaw will rise to greater Glory and petrosyan will be handed his 2nd loss to his career ( again in thailand ). Petrosyan has it all and can definitely hold his own but will have to be able to handle the clinch and flying elbows which wud be the only difference for him to deal with. Again, hes ring smart and a tough competitor for anyone they put in front of him
August 29, 2012 at 2:33 pm
Buakaw will win for sure. What people tend to forget is that Petrosyan never really was succesfull in full Thai rules. He fought Pinsinchai, which was a draw, but imo definitely a win for Pinsinchai. He also lost to Nonthanan Por Pramuk, and his fight against Buakaw he also definitely should’ve lost. That being said, Petrosyan will NEVER fight full thai rules again. So this fight is definitely NOT happening. We all know that Petrosyan is not affraid to fight Nak Muays, but he is affraid to fight FTR, I don’t see this changing, he is well protected and can make enough money with kickboxing. NOT HAPPENING!
August 30, 2012 at 2:22 am
He fought Pinsinchai when he was 16 years old! Have you seen him knock Petch
after he trained in Thailand…Second round clean KO, and Petch is great MT fighter.
August 30, 2012 at 3:16 pm
Petch is a great fighter? Lol. Never heard of him. Didn’t quite look like a great fighter to me.

August 31, 2012 at 2:26 pm
Please elobarate. Can’t find any info on Petch.

wow, petro was lookin so good. i dont mean shocking but awesome to watch.
September 1, 2012 at 2:05 pm
That’s not the same fighter you idiot!
August 30, 2012 at 2:20 am
I hope it will happen!!! They both have equal chance to win!
August 30, 2012 at 3:18 pm
Equal? This is Muay Thai, not Kickboring. All the Nak Muays he had faced in Kickboxing would get destroy him with Thai rules.
September 1, 2012 at 3:55 pm
Petrosyan fought buakaw in thai boxing rules, when he was 18 years old and he made a draw without much train… since the fight would be buakaw vs Parr
August 30, 2012 at 3:22 pm
Ow, I just read Petrosyan did not sign this deal and will not participate in Thai Fight. How surprising..
August 30, 2012 at 5:18 pm
The fight should not be in Thailand as the judging will be very biased towards Buakaw……Petrosyan would have to ko him or absolutely dominate him or he’s losing….
Petrosyan seems to have good balance and is good in the clinch…It’s the elbows that he may get beat up with.. I doubt Buakaw would beat him that much in the clinch
Petrosyan should have lost to Pinsinchai in FTR but Giorgio was like 18 when that happened…Doesn’t mean anything.
August 30, 2012 at 9:16 pm
And Pinsinchai around 40. So what?
August 30, 2012 at 7:57 pm
Doesnt surprise me that Petrosyan didnt sign the dotted line. I wouldnt eigther if I was him. I know Id be setup to lose in Thailand from the get go.
August 30, 2012 at 9:15 pm
I don’t know where people get the idea that Thai Fght is corrupt with the decision making. I have not seen one robbery in Thai Fight. The argument that he would lose on points only, however the fight will go, I feel is a big excuse.
August 30, 2012 at 9:20 pm
Thai Fight 2012 Singmanee Kaewsamrit vs.Benoui Houcine, do you see it as a clear win for Singmanee ?
August 31, 2012 at 8:42 am
^ yes
August 31, 2012 at 2:24 pm
Also, yes. And I think it’s not the problem of the judges, it’s the fact that Buakaw would outpoint Petro anyhow, since he is just the better Nak Muay. I believe that Petro just made the decision long ago that he doesn’t fight FTR , no matter how much money or pride there is involved. My prediction: Petrosyan will never fightt FTR again during his career. I’m 99,99999999999% sure of this. I take my words back if this changes.
September 1, 2012 at 6:34 am
wow, you are really in love with buakaw….
September 1, 2012 at 3:15 am
yuppers!
September 1, 2012 at 3:20 am
Petro really has no reason to fight FTR…..60k might sound like a lotta money but it really isn’t considering the backlashes that a loss to Buakaw will do to his career. Also, Buakaw’s camp is obviously trying to soop up Buakaw’s stakes by attempting to make him fight a Petro who is known as one of the best pound 4 pound kickboxer in history using rules in which Buakaw clearly has the advantage. Buakaw has everything to win from this.
September 1, 2012 at 1:56 pm
If Petrosyan has no reason to fight FTR, he shouldn’t be fighting Nak Muays with Kickboxing rules. And, no, lol, I’m not in love with Buakaw, but I am kind of fed up with people around me stating that Petrosyan would be easily the best Thaiboxer as well if he competed in FTR. It’s just a different game, and people don’t understand that Petrosyan wouldn’t last. I don;t see the pride in beating a Thai boxing champion in a different game, when he isn’t fighting these guys on their own rules.
September 1, 2012 at 8:52 pm
wtf are you smoking? i have not heard one person[with a valid opinion] say petro would be the ‘best’ thai boxer if he fought full rules….its quite the opposite. you hang out with idiots. that is unfortunate. but petro is good. damn good. maybe he doesnt fight with FTR because thais will just try to cut him and get a victory like they have done so many times in overseas fights. maybe he wants a ‘clean’ fight where u cant resort to clinching or an elbow cut to win if you cant handle punching and kicking with someone. maybe he doesnt want to deal with bullshit decisions. buakaw never really beat him. and buakaw wont have that much of an advantage even if it is FTR. also buakaw is very far from his prime. you need to get over it and stop letting your love affair with buakaw affect your judgement because its really starting to sound like hes your idol.
September 2, 2012 at 3:09 pm
Or maybe he does not have the heart like Pinca, Harrisson, Alamos, etc.. And Buakaw did actually beat Petrosyan, if you think otherwise (like those retard judges) I can not take you seriously.
About Buakaw, he is simply the best fighter and also the most handsome! He is just freakin awesome!!!!!! I love him..
September 3, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Buakaw is not the best fighter of muay thai of the world, he never won a lumpini or a rajadamnern, he had is peak in k1, cause in full muay thai rules, there are a quite thai fighters better than buakaw.
September 3, 2012 at 9:25 pm
I recommend a cold shower for you ;-)
September 1, 2012 at 3:58 pm
like you beat Roger Federer in Table tennis or beat Eric Cantona in beach soccer???
September 1, 2012 at 7:25 pm
Exactly! And as well like you beat Armstrong with track cycling, or beat Fedor in judo, or beat Bolt in a marathon, or beat Messi in a futsal match, or beat Sarah Pavan in a Sepak Takraw match.
September 3, 2012 at 9:57 pm
maybe buakaw didnt win a raja or lumpini title but he has gained alot more experience and exposure fighting more diverse fighters in k1, shootboxing AND MT and repping thailand abroad.. He did win omnoi stadium champion belt at feather weight and then at lightweight.. he did also win featherweight champion of thailand title too and toyota marathon tournament at lumipnee. He is in my opinion the best ambassador of MT to the rest of the world thailand has ever produced. I wud say yes he didnt win lumpini title or raja but hes still at the top of his game considering there are fighters who did win a title but have slipped into oblivion since but this cat has been able to keep in the forefront worldwide since winning his first k1 worldmax title in 2004. Thats 8-9 yrs ago now and still making front headlines :) well thats my 2 cents worth abit off topic but nevermind haha
September 3, 2012 at 10:51 pm
Exactly, when Buakaw entered his peak he joined K1 and smashed everyone there. At that moment he was already ranked 2nd in Lumpinee. I strongly believe Buakaw would have gained some big titles if he stayed competing in Thailand. Now, I honoustly don’t think Buakaw is the best Thai fighter out there, but definitely an elite Nak Muay, as well in Thailand as outside. That I said he is the greatest and most handsome was sarcasm, hope you guys understand that..
Now back to Petro, many claim it’s the smartest thing for him not to join Thai Fight. I think this is load of bullshit, since I not see other top contenders taking the safe road as well. It’s like saying that Mayweather should never fight Pacqiuoa, because it’s the smartest thing for Mayweather.
September 4, 2012 at 5:51 am
Surin25……Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are Boxers………Buakaw is a Nakmuay…..Petrosyan is a Kickboxer…..that kind of renders your argument unrelated. Buakaw did very well in K1 while Petrosyan’s stint in the Muay Thai realm was not a great one. All I’m saying is that Buakaw has a GREAT advantage over Petro in the Muay Thai realm and it would be in the best interest of Petro to decline if he wants to keep his record as clean as possible.
September 4, 2012 at 9:53 am
ummm, lets not forget so fucking easily that petrosyan came into k1 and did pretty much the same thing without wasting one drop of sweat and without getting KO’d. i would have LOVE LOVE LOVED to see petro fight masato. just like the other fighters he would make him so amateur. but, i admit i doubt he would give masato the epic beating that buakaw did in that one k1 fight.
September 4, 2012 at 11:09 am
I agree.. Petros road to k1 max champion he made it look so effortless. I wanted to see petro fight masato also and that was supposed to happen as masatos last fight in k1 but unfortunate circumstances occured in which Petro had done some damage to his hand in training.. I always wondered if the japas paid Petro a purse to bow out of fighting masato in masatos last Great finale. Well guess will never know now
September 4, 2012 at 3:08 pm
Well looks like Petro v buakaw isnt going to go down but I did hear that Yodsanklai will be fighting Kem on December 30.
September 4, 2012 at 4:16 pm
That would be sick.
September 5, 2012 at 8:22 am
i bet my car this fight will happen. who wanna bet?
