Bring back crazy Mike
October 30, 2008 by nopstar
I’m always surprised that I’m not seeing Mike Tyson in K-1. I know he’s out of it, but I still think he could take some heads off.
I think it’s because he’s too unpredictable, unstable and most importantly crazy. The Japanese love Bob Sapp because he’ll play that role, but in the end I’m sure he’s quite reasonable. Mike on the other hand would probably eat someone in the front row.
I found this old footage of him the other day. It’s amazing how you don’t appreciate something until you try it. I’ve been boxing a fair bit, and to watch Mike move it’s just effing sick. The guy was such a beast. I’m pretty sure this footage isn’t sped up, his speed is incredible. What’s even more mind blowing is the combination of that speed with his power…
I’d be willing to bet Tyson could walk in off the street and knock Hong Man Choi into next week. I have to admit I kind of miss his crazy Mike… K-1 doesn’t seem to take their heavyweights seriously anyway, why not throw him in the mix?

Best hooks in the game.

Is this video clip showing a previous MT or the current MT? if not mistaken, the current MT has tattoo on his face.
There’s absolutely no reason why Mike Tyson should be in K-1 based wishful, fantasy based, reality based or otherwise. Tyson’s so past done and has been for 8 years or more.
The further he moves away from fighting the better off he is and the betgter off boxing is.
I loved Mike under Cus De´Mato(spelling?) but after he died and Don King got his Claws on Mike, it all went downhill, even though it would have anyways at some point, due to his mental state. But Wow what Skills, what a phenomenon he was! I will always look at Mike in his prime with Awe! Truely Amazing, Truely Scary fighter!
why not throw mike in the K-1 mix? because he’s done, he has been losing to bums his last fights, and probably couldn’t beat Virgil Kalakoda if they fought.
Not meaning to disrespect Iron Mike, dude was fenomenal in his prime and even though he never got even close to reaching his full potential and lost most of his biggest fights both in the ring(holyfield, lewis) as in real life (mental instabillity, marriage robin givens, the money he threw away) he did achieve a lot.
I’m glad by the way i saw him in cannes promoting his biography dvd or whatever, I hope he can get himself out the gutter now it was sad reading the news about him having to beg money to drugdealers and bums.
Cus was a scum bag no matter what popular belief to the contrary there is. Mike is ilding his days away on whatever psychoactive drugs help him. I hope he never dreams of going into a ring again.
Kid Dynamite in his prime (mid 80s-late 80s) could probably have given any HW a hard time. He went into the ring looking to destroy opponents. His head movement, skills, elusiveness, not to mention speed and power was more than enough to take him to undisputed HW Championship. Currently he is about 300 lbs of lard and is living the good life. K-1? No way jose.
Oh, and I have a feeling that Holyfield, Lewis and Foreman would all have given Mike an all out war if not altogether beat Mike in his prime- but the point is moot.
i think all mike ever was is a hard quick puncher..very one dimensional..’when he came on the scene there was nothing like it which is why he was winning…
I almost feel bad for him…trusted too many people got taken advantage off..ruined his life and rep
him in K-1 would be a circus…thats not what it should be about..and he will get killed with anyone who knows what theyre doing…a couple of leg kicks and thats it
A hard quick puncher that KOed or TKOed his first 19 opponents, many in one round; he also destroyed HW Champ Trevor Berbick, Larry Holmes (a bit passed his prime, but a legend nonetheles) and Michael Spinks. Not to mention his war with Razor Ruddock, who had just as hard, if not harder punch, than Mike himself.
I was scared as I saw him moving in that video. Awesome!
Wasn’t that the guy who bites off a piece of ear?
His first 19 fights were against hobos carefully wrangled by Cus too. One guy hadn’t even fought in 4 years.
Hobos- maybe, but still not something that has been accomplished much in the HW division- does not take away from what he has accomplished in such a short time.
i just want him to fight bob sapp. i have no desire to see him in any other fights.
From Tong Po Hobos- maybe, but still not something that has been accomplished much in the HW division
Yeah it has and often. Mike’s time was very brief and in a time when the entire heavy weight division was horrible.
Pretty much agree with SE.
Let them put together clowns in the ring apart from serious/professional fighters.
There’s already enough freaks in K-1.
Come on Stack, What about his Olympic Gold Medal, was that carefully fixed too? Yes Mike was Fucked up, and probably still is, but he was a physical Supertalent, with a fragile state of mind! I feel very sorry for him, growing up in the Gutter, with no Love and Caring, only the harsh Bronx! Before his downfall, he could compete with any of those Giants Tong Po mentioned.
The Olympics also gave RJJ the excellence award and yet passed him over fro the host country’s vastly inferior house boxer. I don’t pity Tyson who by his own account got high as possible following his first world title. I don’t pity aconvicted rapist and got an early start after molesting Teddy Atlas’ 12-year old niece.
Don’t get me wrong you’re welcome to pity and admire a moral-less but talented has-been all you want but Tyson needs to stay retired and Tyson agrees.
I’m a Tyson fan.
He was the youngest heavyweight ever and he unified the division. Both admirable achievements.
I don’t think he should come out of retirement, though. And certainly not to fight in K1.
I do feel compassion towards the dude. That doesn’t mean I condone his behavior. He’s made mistakes, he’s seriously damaged other people and himself. But I certainly hope he can find peace.
olympic gold medal?
Stack-”Yeah it has and often. Mike’s time was very brief and in a time when the entire heavy weight division was horrible.”
Who else has done this? Also, that was not his fault, the same could be said of Marciano.
Except Marciano has actually fought good opponents.
There’s a long list of boxers that had actually beat more than Mike and unlike Mike’s victims more than a few them were more than warm corpses. If you don’t know it’s time to find out and truly no offense but I am not going to invest time into telling you when 1- you act like you care enough about the topic to know, 2- the topic is already pretty much a complete shambles and 3 – the information is a matter of public record and I don’t want to divert anyone from praising or pitying a convicted rapist and child molester, a drug addict and mentally weak fighter who wants nothing to do with a ring.
I will agree Mike’s first tier of opponents were not the kings of the HW division. Also, I agree that when Mike went up against top level HWs- Holyfield, Lewis, he folded. I won’t say he is the greatest, which many seem to believe. I will say he is still a step below the likes of Holyfield and a bit below Lewis. Topic is done to death many times- and it seems that Tyson either gets too much credit or none at all. He athleticism was tailor made for Cus D’Amato’s bob and weave style, much more than Floyd Patterson.
Stack
Very cynical, but Correct. But we cant all have the Mental powers provided by good upringings and a healthy enviroment. I dont pity Tysons bad choices and Criminal Behavior, I just pity the little Boy that had to grow up, under circumstances that literally fucked him up mentally. Lack of Love, Lack of guidance and Rolemodels. He messed his life up totally with the help of Don King, and bad “Friends”. I think Life is fucking hard, even if you were lucky to have good parents and not poor. Think of all the Slum kids whoose lives we all look at with pity and sorrow, in NY or Thailand, doesnt matter. My point is Mike is a sad Story, about a human being who wasnt the Smartest, who just didnt have anyone who cared genuineley about him (Exept Cus) and totally fucked up his remaining life. Its sad to see a human with such Incredible skills, throw it all away cause of his fragile mind. His behaviour can be reasoned, not condoned, but understood, Put yourself in his life from when he was a baby and see how you turn out. Not everyone who comes from slum turns out BAD, but it definetley CAN Fuck you up for LIFE. Mikes brain just could cope!
Couldnt Cope!!
Cus never cared beyong Mike’s capacity to earn money for him. That’s why Mike was continually actingout in school and Cus would bribe them to shut up. Eventually he put Mike in the gym and took him out of high school wholly. Cus was a scum bag.
Mike Tyson is a scum bag. How many excuses do you want to offer for a convicted rapist, thief, and hopeless drug addict? At some point adults are responsible for their own actions.
boohoo poor Mike. The smartest thing he did was stop fighting and his words ’stop shaming the sport’.
Stack thats very Cold, and I would know Im from Greenland ;-)
But dont know if Cus was or was not a scumbag!
But it takes a weak heart to judge one another, yes Mike is responsible for his shit, and for the second time, I feel sorry for the Kid Mike Tyson, as an Adult the Damage was already done, and we saw the result of that.
