Berneung vs. Namsaknoi

July 29, 2008 by nopstar

Looks like we’re friends with Google again.  You may have noticed that most of the category tags are missing.  I didn’t realize how many posts I’ve written, something like 450+

I’ve got a little treat for you guys today.  I wanted to save it until after the site is running at 100% but who knows when that’s going to happen Big ups to Tong Po for passing this along.

This past weekend “The Emperor” aka Namsaknoi was back in the ring battling it out with Bernueng Sakhomsin (Tiger Muay Thai).  Bernueng has been mentioned a few time’s on our blog.  Bernueng is currently a trainer in at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket.  I had initially met him while he was helping out at Ingram Gym in Bangkok.

Anyone who’s ever trained and grappled with him can attest he’s a beast.  Guy is built like a brick shithouse.   Bernueng has scary hands, excellent ring vision and is strong.

Namsaknoi… what can you say about the guy?  He’s a legend.  It’s worth noting though he’s hasn’t been active in quite sometime.

Nop, you have got to me shitting me…

Are you serious?? I was in Phuket this past weekend. Was this really just this past weekend??? PHUK – IT!! Which stadium in Phuket? I saw the Bangla flyer but it was a couple Aussies and some youngsters fighting.

Dude, I know it is my own lame laziness, but can we get an events calendar going somehow. Something that users can contribute to and edit, so it is fresh. I can’t believe I missed this fight.

Fantatsic fight. This one’s entertaining enough to show to my muay-thai saturated gf without her killing me. Thanks!

BTW, thanks for getting the site back up, Nop! I run Firefox so I was worried there for a few days. Cheers!

    Hi,
I was in Phuket for the past 2 months training muay thai at tiger muay thai. It was reall gr8 and i trained with bernung. He is the trainer in the advanced ring and is strong as champion. I went to the fight too and it was really great. Both the fighters were reall gud and bernung won. Namsaknoi was gud too. I have seen Bernung train and he is an animal man. He is a really gud boxer and he takes a lot of punishment in the ring and gives back.

Great fight. I hope Namsaknoi keeps on fighting though.

Sorry for being an uneducated MT fan, but what the hell was Numsaknoi doing at 3:46? Was he planning on throwing a strike while he was up there or is there a mysterious technique I should know about? LOL

He could have been setting up for a downward elbow, which would be very Muay Boran of him, and totally awesome if he had.

The old ‘crotch to the face” technique. Very effective unless your opponent responds with the “bite and swallow” counter :)

    Or

    He was just defending a leg-catch. :(

    Great fighters. Man they’re tough.
Namsaknoi looks more tired in the end. Berneung is the man.

    Wow, I LOVE THIS SITE!!

Here’s a better link to the fight. This video isn’t as wobbly and contains more of the fight. Check out how Berneung with his strength manhandles Namsaknoi. I wonder if Berneung outweighed him, he looks like he has more muscle. Maybe a kilo or two difference?

    Thanks Matt.
Namsaknoi looks frustrated in the last two rounds.
Berneung was more efficient and crisp. He won, hands down.

    Nice video Matt!
Remember me? We met at Ingram where I sporadically train. I saw you fight in Pattaya!

Berneung really is a beast! Strong (and intelligent) like an ox! He blew my ear drum out with a high kick during a “light technical sparring” session once. Couldn’t hear for 2 weeks…
