Ali Ingram Gym

August 30, 2007 by nopstar

This fight is a couple of months old, but I’m fairly certain most of you haven’t seen it. Whenever I get a chance to get home, I typically get a couple of sessions in at the Ingram Gym in Bangkok.

I first heard of Ingram, because they were the crew who first brought Buakaw into K-1 Max. My current trainer Neungsiam was a trainer there after he parted ways with Fairtex. Their a solid bunch… One of the fighters who’ve I’ve gotten to know is Ali.

I wrote a post a couple of months back about my first time in the fighter’s area at Rajadomnern stadium. The fighter I was accompanying was Ali, a truly memorable experience.

This was Ali’s first foray into Japan. I’m not that familiar with the rules of Shooto. I’m pretty sure elbows aren’t allowed, but I wasn’t aware that you could choke a bitch out. Anybody have any experience with Shoot Boxing? Many thanks to Yappakoredesho for the upload!

Hey thanks for posting this page it brings back memories. I learnt the basics of muay thai at Ingram because it was a stone throw away from my house. At first I was quite intimidated by how many Japanese were there and i always remember Dawsaming laughing about how unco i am. But it was all good. I didn’t see Ali there tho. Cheers bro

you can do standing submission in shootboxing
and throw count too (only when the opponent is throwed over the waistline)

Shooto and Shoot Boxing differs from each other. In Shoot Boxing, only standing submissions is allowed while Shooto has similair rules as most other MMA organisations.

Decent fight. He (Ali) could do with some boxing training. He has a very heavy reliance on kicks (at least in that fight).

Good fight. I’m not all that familiar with the rules either, but the fight was exciting!

    Ali from Ingram Gym?

I think he is a muslim Thai. Probably comes from southern provinces in Thailand.

However, on his fight against the Japanese, it appears he is good with his skills.

Well, he may not use his punches a lot, however it’s common for Thais to use their legs all the time, even when counterattacking.

The exception may be well known punchers such as Anuwat Kaewsamrit or Yodsankhlai Fairtex.

What’s the deal with those tights that the shoot boxers wear?

THE other JOE, they were oldchool Shooto pants. Shootboxing is directly derived from Shooto, but the are no ground aspects to the fighting. It’s much closer to MT like the rest of the Japanese kicke events are. And another reason to dislike K-1.

Expert rules allow elbows as well.

Ali’s opponent Takeshi Ishikawa is a very good fighter. He knocked out opponents with takedowns before and put them to sleep with standing chokes. He’s usually fun to watch.

Oh and nopstar, you might want to check out the Makoto Oe/Takashi Abe and Makoto Abe/Hiromu Yoshitaka bouts I uploaded on my YouTube channel. Two of the best Shootboxing bouts ever.

Oe after he quit Shootboxing started training in Thailand and became very influeced by Muay Thai. Those two fights were after he made his return as a UWF-i representative.

Hiromu Yoshitaka was the first Shootboxing S-Cup champion.

    Kamatari-

Thanks for the heads up… Oe’s shorts may qualify for the worst MT shorts ever… Oe’s corner is also speaking to him in Thai, good stuff.
