Remy Bonjasky vs. Paul Slowinski

September 30, 2008 by nopstar · 8 Comments

Big thanks to Yassuo of K-1fans.com for the upload.  I think this was one of the better fights of the evening.

It was interesting to see some of Ernesto’s facial expressions during the bout.  He’s been coaching Slowinski now for a couple of years now, he didn’t look happy.

I think Slowinski threw half a dozen kicks the entire 3rd round, and maybe a a couple of knees throughout the entire bout.

I’m not sure what Remy’s deal is either. He’s appeared to have slowed down as well…  Does anyone know anything about Bonjasky’s relationship with Ernesto Hoost?  At the end of the fight, check out their interaction… Hoost and Bonjasky don’t even look each other in the eye.  Bonjasky shakes his head and has an expression like he doesn’t think he won it? Ernesto touches his glove and walks past him?  Clearly they don’t like each other much…

Anybody?

Antuan Siangboxing

The latest issue of MuayThai Mag is out on newsstands.  I got my copy the other day… If you don’t have a subscription you can get one here.  If you’d like to see what the magazine is  all about, you can go and peruse their online version.

This month they had an interview with Antuan Siangboxing.  I had seen he’s name on forums for a while but never really dug into his profile until the other day.  I think his promoter and manager are doing a very good job getting his name out there. Read more

Glass Chins

September 25, 2008 by nopstar · 21 Comments

When I was watching the Jongsanan, Superlek fight, all I could keep thinking was that everyone of those blows would have put me to sleep.  I was thinking about my ability to take a punch, and I have to admit I’ve got a pretty shit chin.  I’ve never been knocked out cold, but I’ve come dangerously close even with head gear on.  Actually that’s a lie, when I was 10 I ran into a tree (bright kid) knocked my shit out cold.  In fact I had a really vivid dream of lying in a warm grassy field.  When I came to I had a splitting headache and was slightly disappointed I was no longer in the field.

Did any of you catch the Amir Khan fight?  If you didn’t here you go.  On a side note why did Amir’s camp put him in with a fighter with such a high KO ratio?  They had to know there boy had a nopstar chin?

I came across this article today on MMAJunkie.com about Good Chins vs. Bad Chins, in short it’s genetic… not a whole lot you can do about it.   Since i’ve been spending a lot of time with boxers, it’s become so apparent to me that Nak Muay’s are really open to neck snapping head shots.  It’s incredible how much movement is required when your boxing.  It’s tough to switch to box mode for me… I’m sure the boxers think I’m some sort of zombie.

When was the last time you were knocked out? Any vivid dreams?

Many thanks to Mark Mian for passing this one along…  we’re going retro today, this is a match up featuring Jongsanan before his days with Fairtex, vs. Superlek.  Also hats off to GKfromMTA for taking the time to upload and share your collection with us.

I think this fight took place around ‘92; many consider this era the height of Muay Thai’s popularity in Thailand. Read more
