Remy vs. Melvin

While we’ve been busy covering The Contender Asia, there seems to have been some pretty good fights happening over in Amsterdam. This past week the K-1 Heavyweights were busy mixing it up… thanks to Gusnark and Tong Po for passing these along.

I’m not big on the heavy weights but occasionally you stumble on some battles… this next fight was pretty intense.

I really didn’t know which way this was going to go. Melvin reminds me of an enormous Zambidis… I saw Melvin when I was at slamm, and we were about the same height but I’m way more cut…

Soren vs. Sean Contender Asia Finals

Many thanks to our friends at the Contender Asia fans for posting these. My apologies for the 4 parts, but I wasn’t able to get the original dl.

Last but definitely not least, Sean vs. Soren. In my opinion the fight of the night. BTW, how nice was it not to have to listen to those guys? Another random observation… I think Sean has to have the worst Ram Muay… I’m not talking the Haduken. I think that’s pretty cool, but if you watch his ram muay it’s just awful. Once again it confirmed my suspicions about fairtex being left out, when they announced Soren’s full fight name…

Return of the Emperor

I try to cover to all the major Nak Muay’s on MyMuayThai, I honestly don’t know how I’ve managed to neglect one of the biggest names of our sport for so long. Namsaknoi aka “the Emperor” Yutthakarnkamtorn.

It appears that he’s getting back into ring, in the next few months. The fight is going down in Malaysia, sometime in June against Rudolf Durica. Read more

Call to Ban Childrens Muay Thai?

I came across this article today about possibly banning children’s Muay Thai in the UK. I’ve done a few posts on the subject… I’m generally not into kids fighting. I’ve been to a lot of the smaller stadiums and watched what appeared to be 8 years olds going at it.

Personally, I feel sorry for the children. I don’t support it, I guess its pretty hyppocritical of me, and as much as I love Muay Thai all of my favorite Nak Muays all walked this path. They were all poor and have had childhoods that I won’t even pretend to understand. I’m not trying to make any value judgments, it’s Thailand and the circumstances are different. Read more
