Phuket 3 Years Later…

May 31, 2007 by nopstar · 3 Comments

On December 26th 2004 I was having Dim Sum with some friends at the Peninsula in Bangkok. My friend is late, he comes down 10 min. later says for some reason all of the elevators are dead and he had to walk down 20+ floors. He asked me if the windows down in the lobby shuddered. He said he thought there must have been huge gust of wind or something.

None of us new anything had happened. By the time we were done eating we could people crowded around some televisions watching cnn. My buddy David was staying in Phi Phi, I hope he was okay.

A few days later I get a call from David, he’s catching the next military transport into Read more

Bangla Boxing Stadium Phuket

Bangla Boxing StadiumI decided to go check out some fights my last night in Phuket. I mentioned in my previous that Phuket has a thriving Muay Thai scene. When someone initially told me that I thought they were talking about the “Thai Boxing Shows” that are held at bars. I was surprised to find that there really is a fight scene. Phuket has 3 venues and a half a dozen camps all over the island.

I was told by the folks at Sinbi Muay Thai that they are able to arrange fights on short notice and of varying abilities. I think if you’re training in Bangkok you’ll probably have to head down to Pattaya to fight. If you’re looking to fight, I think this is the place to be.

Somebody told me you’re paid something like 2,500 -4,000 baht for a fight ($58 – $115) big money. Read more

For my mother

I typically try to leave my none muay thai life out of my posts. However today is the exception. This morning my mom passed away.

I’m not a person who is typically into poetry, but when I first heard this poem it moved me. I’d like to share it with all of you.

Seanchai’s Got Skills

May 24, 2007 by nopstar · 10 Comments

This is Saenchai Sor. Kingstar all around Muay Thai bad ass. I found this clip of him foolin around. My Trainer Neungsiam fought him once. Neungsiam was the 112 lbs Lumpini champ and moved up to fight Saenchai for the vacant 115 lbs Lumpini Title.

Neungsiam said it was a great fight, they went into the 5th round even. Neungsiam said he through a left kick which Saenchai slipped, Neungsiam’s missed and ended up tangling his left leg in the ropes. Saenchai timed it beautifully and landed a crushing right kick to Neungsiams back. Saenchai became the 115 lbs. lumpini champion, and they never fought again.

If you watch The Contender Thailand promo clip you’ll spot Saenchai. Neungsiam was suprised to see him in the clip. I think he gets excited whenever he sees fighters from his generation still at it. Neungsiam wished him the best but fears that Saenchai may be getting too old to compete with the young dogs…

Cruel and Unusual

Next time you’re in Thailand and your thinking about fucking around think twice! You may get shoved into a Takraw ball and used as the prison elephants play thing!

Wow, you know it was some sick bastard who came up with this one… you know it was some prison guards sitting around talking about what f’ed up things they could do to the inmates. “Dude, I’ve got it… this would be so messed up. Let’s make a human size tegraw ball and get one of the elephants to kick it!” His buddy shakes his head ” Nah I’ve got one better, let’s put nails into it and then let elephants kick it around!”

This exhibit is part of the Thai Prison Museuem. They’ve got some other crazy contraptions. I’m not planning on going to prison any time soon, but I’m glad that all of these things have been banned.
