If you guys are into Muay Thai and K-1 which I know you are, you should really check out K-1 Fans. I have to say of all the forums I’ve been on it’s one of the most informed forums on Muay Thai and K-1. Currently there is a thread discussing the meaning of your favorite fighter’s names.
If you’re curious you should definitely join and ask away. These are the names translated by the forum member Gaggam. I speak Thai and I don’t know what half of these names mean. These are just a few, if you want to see more head over to the thread.
As far as bad ass names go I think Lumsongkram takes the cake. I think my fighter name would be Nopstar Lumdakmunfarang (built to eat french fries) By the way how tough does he look mugging the camera in the contender thailand promo clip? You can can see him in the last 10 seconds of the clip.

I often ponder if Muay Thai will survive MMA’s influence in American culture. I know it’s an odd statement to make. I’m fully aware that for the most part, Muay Thai is riding on crest of MMA’s rising popularity in the States. I see more and more Muay Thai gyms’ offering BJJ and BJJ Dojo’s offering Muay Thai.
In 10 years from now will we still have Muay Thai Camps in America? Will we have any stand alone BJJ dojos? Or will we just have MMA gyms? I think it’s clear that Read more

What’s up fellas, it’s Friday and by the time you read this I’m on plane back to Thailand. I should be there for a little over a week, No worries though I’ve got plenty of posts to keep you busy. If I don’t respond to your post in a timely manner it’s because I’m trapped under a Tuk Tuk or haven’t made it to the internet cafe.
I’m hoping to get some training in, and take in some fights. Hopefully I can find something to cover while I’m there.
Buakaw fighting in Slamm?

A few months ago I did a post on the all star line up that was slated for Slamm. The other day a member of our community Souvik reported that Buakaw didn’t even know about the event. (see pic)
I did a little digging but it Read more

The other week Siriporn Taweesuk defeated Japan’s Akaya Miyano to become the new WBC women’s light flyweight champion. The fight wasn’t held at just any venue, but the infamous “Bangkok Hilton” Thailand’s Maximum security prison.
The fighters met in the sweltering Bangkok heat in a makeshift ring set up at the prison. The setup wouldn’t have been complete without the transvestite inmate ring “girls” who signaled the rounds.
Siriporn was serving a 10 year sentence for drug trafficking , Siriporn who has served 9 years of her sentence took up boxing to defend herself. As part of a parole incentive, she’ll be released in the next few months.
Damn that must have felt good.
Sancturary of Truth, Pattaya

When I was living in Bangkok, I would occasionally head down to Pattaya for the weekend. I haven’t been for ages… last I looked there were about 4 of 5 camps in the vicinity. Next time you’re down there, and you have a day off from training may I suggest a little side trip?

On his last trip, my buddy stumbled across this place called the “Sanctuary of Truth” I’ve never been, but he swears that it’s one of the coolest places he’s ever been? You can check out the rest of his set here.
Out of curiosity, have any of you guys been to Thailand? How often do you go? I’m going to be heading there this Friday, hopefully I’ll get a chance to take in a fight and get some training in.
