    wow…

I didn’t see it going down like that at all! I’m kinda shocked.

I think Souwer should cut Buakaw and Kyshenko a small check, for prepping Masato’s leg for him.

  2. Anonymous on October 3rd, 2007 2:22 pm

when they matched up masato vs. buakaw 1st round they inadvertently paved the way for souwers victory. Souwer can definitely hang with Masato in the punching range.

  3. alessandro on October 3rd, 2007 2:27 pm

so gutted 4 masato he had a tough road i cudnt belive how many kicks he took off buakaw looks like they did take their toll in the end

    Por Pramuk:
    25 low kicks

    Kyshenko:
    5 low kicks

    Souwer
    37 low kicks

    Yikes.

Masato’s legs took a beating that night. Props to him for taking all that punishment (not to mention Nopstar for the excellent coverage ^^)

Thanks guys… I actually haven’t watched a lot of these fights yet. Going to spend some quality time with them tonight.

I’m glad you enjoy the coverage, I appreciate you guys being apart of MyMuayThai.

Buakaw totally gave Souwer the easy win. Now i see how you can watch your opponents damage progress in tournaments and use it to your victory. Nobody can doubt that Buakaws kicks didn’t do the most damage to Masatos legs. If the Japanese werent see bias, it would have totally been another Souwer vs. Buakaw year again!. Hats off to Souwer, 2x K1 Champ. This years K1 just proves that there are only two fighters capable of being champ, EVER!. 2004-BBP, 2005-Souwer, 2006-BPP, 2007-Souwer, 2008-BPP :D, 2009-Souwer, 2010-BPP and so on :D.

  10. yknocka on October 3rd, 2007 4:03 pm

    thanks nops for the post.!!!!

no thx to the japanese haters.

  11. Tong Po on October 3rd, 2007 4:35 pm

Masato, once again, gets such a punishing road that it detracts from his final fight! No disrespect to Souwer though, but Masato has more skills and pop to his punches than Souwer! Buakaw and Kyshenko both did a number on Masato! Big props to Masato for showing the heart of a true warrior! After his fight with Buakaw, I don’t know how Masato went on to fight Kyshenko. Big ups to Souwer for also taking a tough road in KOing Drago and a hard fight with Kraus!

  12. Tong Po on October 3rd, 2007 4:36 pm

PS Thanks for the uploads, Nopstar!! This may be the hardest fought Max yet (for all competitors)!

  13. krujeff on October 3rd, 2007 6:32 pm

looks like what finished masato’s leg off was the knees souwer threw to them in the last clinch before the end of the round

  14. jerry on October 3rd, 2007 6:42 pm

thanks to Buakaw. Souwer has much easy job to deal with Masato.

  15. Suli on October 3rd, 2007 7:00 pm

Dam WTF??? that was whack!!! Man i kinda feel bad for Masato i feel like he really fought his heart out…

  16. Suli on October 3rd, 2007 7:01 pm

O yeah Big Up on the the POST much respect NOP!!!

  17. Deimian on October 3rd, 2007 7:05 pm

buakaw is the top dog in it all

buakaw was being silly in how he dealt with masato buakaw just wated to trade for punches with him he a strong dude though

but bad game plan should have sticked to the one in 2004 with teeps every time he got closer

  18. Deimian on October 3rd, 2007 7:15 pm

honestly we all know who the real champ

Buakaw taking puinches like that and wanting more souwer took this year?

man that was a soft compeition

souwer didn’t even have compeition to get to where he was even at the end he didn’t have compeition

  19. burnt1tofu on October 3rd, 2007 8:07 pm

Thanks for posting these, and keeping the wins on the DL. This is as close to watching it live as I’ve been!

  20. Hellraiser112 on October 3rd, 2007 10:34 pm

They all fought well. Too bad BPP fell into Masato’s plan and got outclassed by masato’s superior boxing skills. Im a huge BPP fan by the way…

  21. Mrblackma on October 4th, 2007 1:38 am

First…Masato just beat BPP…beat him clearly enough that even Buakaw looked disappointed in himself at the end of rnd 3.
Second….Souwer cant hang with Masatos boxing, no way. Masato honestly should have been a boxer…but thats another story. Souwer is OVER JOYED when Masato had to throw in the towel…I think a third round would have been tough for both of them.
Masato did everything he should have to prepare for this and he came in much more cut and fit than I have seen him in years.
It was a good show, no doubt about it.

  22. jothai on October 4th, 2007 1:42 am

why. buakaw bad and bad fight. because 1. too much kick style . muaythai style /2004 and 2006 year. 2he no technigue in muaythai style. 3 no lucky . sorry for my english

  23. Deimian on October 4th, 2007 1:56 am

Mr blackma masato did fight well his style has not changed

its obvious in this fight that if high kicks and teeps were used as buakaw did in 2004 it would have been a repeat

reason why its clear despite getting hit by masato punches buakaw still rushed him masato even though he was throwing punches at buakaw looked more passive than him. however his punches landed and impacted the judges mind.

fair win for masato buakaw used a bad plan
he wanted to out box him as it would seem.

masato hasn’t really leveled up cus his style remains constant never going up never going down.
buakaw exchanged with him hard as hell he alot tougher than masato not to take anything away from masato because he is strong in his own right

  24. treeman on October 4th, 2007 4:12 am

God, my worst nightmare – I was hoping buakaw’s camp would come up with a better strategy to fight masato using more distancing techniques like the teeps and superior evasion and counter kicks (exactly like 2004) and add in some improve punching to boot. Instead Buakaw played right into his game plan by trying to trade boxing with Masato? How crazy is that? Im a HUGE buakaw fan but anyone capable of unbiase judgement can see that BUakaw cannot outbox masato. His trainers should atleast have been able to see this.

Andy on the other hand was all strategy going into the fight with Masato he didnt under-estimate him. Instead went after the legs – who has ever seen Andy dish out that many low kicks? Andy knew that Masato legs would be shot after his fight with Buakaw and then Artur didnt help either. If you notice, start of Round 1 Masato was still very nimble and explosive, but Andy was patient, held a tight guard ignore the crowd going crazy with each masato flury and just kept at the legs. Round 2 masato is a little less nimble and ANdy intensifies his punches but keeps at the leg. Even in the clinch he was kneeing the leg rather than the body. So there you go… fight smart to win. ONe more important point: after the early round 1 knockdown it was probably too late for Buakaw because he had to play catchup too much and perhaps this was why he kept going in for punches trying to score a KO or down and off course ended getting tag heaps for it. It does show an undeniable fact here though. Buakaw has a god damn metal chin. He must have taken like more than 3 direct hits and kept on rushing and pushing and dishing out low kicks with no sense of slowing down. 2 more rounds like in Muay Thai rule and masato’s legs might have given up and buakaw may have got a TKO – or masato may catch him with another punch. Hard to say for sure. Point is if Buakaw hadn’t played into Masato’s game plan he would less likely be in this situation of catching up.

Congrats has to been given to Masato and SOuwer though. Masato for his determination and fighting spirit and Souwer for his been smart enough to capitalize on the situation to win the battle. Awesome tournament.

  25. krujeff on October 4th, 2007 5:24 am

not to detract from the current trend of comments…but im really interested in seeing how Kyshenko progresses!!

  26. Mrblackmagic on October 4th, 2007 7:13 am

    Treeman,
    Wonderful post.
You obviously know a thing or two and can watch a fight and see it for what it is.
    Only one thing….about Buakaws chin.
Although Masato is a wonderful boxer he has a weak sauce right hand. Im not sure why (although I think its his lack of rotation) but his right is light. His left is the dangerous punch.
He downed BPP with a right but it was an awckward moment, a deserved down but not heavy. Note how many upper cuts he landed without effect….sorry….he just doesnt have any weight behind his right hand.

He sure can move though. I credit his hand speed and foot work which is really AMAZING considering hes kickboxing, barefoot…hard to pivot and move like that.

  27. Gusnark on October 4th, 2007 10:03 am

    Treeman… mine worst nightmare too.
But the worst probably for Buakaw himself.

I think Buakaw would lose if there was no knockdown, because of his strategy.
About knockdown… Buakaw was trying to trip Masato up and was standing on one leg when was punched, check the video. It could be easily treated as a slip. I think K1 judges scored in favor of Masato, he’s their superhero after all. Money talks.

Well, whatever… Buakaw made a mistake, lost and were upset. lol
It will be interesting to see Buakaw fights in the future I hope.

  28. Deimian on October 4th, 2007 10:16 am

he got buakaw ont eh knockdown on timing

buakaw was trying to sweep his lead leg missed it then masato came in with a punch caught him off guard

in the vid we see the back leg come out to sweep his lead leg

  29. Gusnark on October 4th, 2007 10:37 am

I watched the fight again. First round goes to Masato, cause of knockdown. Second goes to Buakaw, was dominating and gave like 20 low kicks while Masato like 5 punches. But in the third he blew it up, looking for KO or down… he should stick to the strategy like in the second… so rounds second and third would be both Buakaws… there would be a chance for an extra round.
Damn, I wanted him to win the championship again. :)

  30. Po on October 4th, 2007 11:06 am

I thought that if a fighter gets a knock down on another fighter, it pretty much signifies that an Instant win regardless of outcome. Unless the fighter with a down downs the other one.

  31. stephen on October 4th, 2007 11:20 am

    Deimien-

you seem to be quite a buakaw nuthugger ^__^. . . i think it’s buakaw’s style that needs to change . . .he’s lost the fire he’s once had because he’s no longer living in poverty, well sort of .. i think the fame has caught up with him . .. i used to and still love buakaw as a fighter but i believe he probably will never go back to his old form. just take a look at his recent fights. . . masato on the other hand improved his punching speed and left kicks. revenge and determination won him the match. if buakaw was to fight kyshenko i doubt he would’ve knocked him out. . . he woulda won but prolly by decision. it’s not fair to say masato hasn’t changed at all. . . maybe his style hasn’t changed drastically, but obviously it’s working….

  32. Frank on October 4th, 2007 12:36 pm

A as Thai fighter myself, I wouldn’t have scored a knockdown in round one. He was tagged standing on one foot and fell backwards, stood up immediately smiling holding his gloves up. That said, I’d still give Masato the decision.

  33. Gusnark on October 4th, 2007 1:10 pm

Stephen, what the hell are you talking about, lol.
“he’s lost the fire he’s once had because he’s no longer living in poverty”

His lifestyle is still the same, basically practicing all days. Also, probably he’s not more wealthy then Masato.
He made a mistake that’s all. Every fighter loses time to time.

Po… it’s not necessary that knockdown signifies instant win. The opponent can still win, even without knockdown. Check fight Kraus vs Jadamba or Villaume vs Kinami.

  34. Gusnark on October 4th, 2007 1:20 pm

“He was tagged standing on one foot and fell backwards, stood up immediately smiling holding his gloves up.”

Yeah, because when Buakaw low kicked Masato and he fell down, that could also be a down then.

Does anyone know, is there any Thai fighter who might come to K1 MAX?

  35. stephen on October 4th, 2007 1:43 pm

    gusnark –

those fights were like 2 years ago man .. . i’m saying buakaw still is the man to beat. . .but you have to admit he doesnt fight with the same ferociousness as he did before .. i really hope he can regain that though. . .

  36. stephen on October 4th, 2007 1:47 pm

^^ my bad didn’t read ur comment throughly . . . . i’m sure he trains the same but i’m just saying he’s won it all twice already and doesn’t seem to want it as bad as before . . . i love buakaw but i cant believe he gave up in the third round. . . .the old buakaw would fight to the finish. . .

  37. Deimian on October 4th, 2007 4:23 pm

stephan nuthugger? thats low coming from you

i am more inspired by hwo he trains and his acheivements

  38. stephen on October 4th, 2007 5:38 pm

i’m sorry, i was being sarcastic . .. -_- i didn’t mean to offend in anyway, just trying to say masato deserves some credit for winning. . . come on now .. this “knockdown” was probably the most legit on buakaw in recent years!!! Buakaw is a tough man to beat, and it’s the first legit loss he’s had in a long ass time.

  39. Mrblackmagic on October 4th, 2007 8:30 pm

Of course Buakaw was off balance, but it was a clean right hand, in the face and he went down. thats a down. they called it well. Just because you jump up smiling doesnt mean you didnt get knocked down.
I think that knock down played a part in BPP staying away from loading up his kicks up high. He was afraid of getting clipped again and going down.

Im still amazed that some people think Masato hasnt improved. Just watch fights over the last three years…theres a steady, step by step improvement in his boxing, hand speed and foot work.

Even one ofthe thai guys he did some sparring with, who I know and who used to sparr with him 3 years ago said Masato has improved alot.

One other point…keep in Mind K1 does not score fights based on the Muay thai point system. They give more points to punches landing to the head then you get in a muay thai fight, especially in thailand. Also, teeps even landing cleaning to the body do not amount to jack on a judges score card in K1, only teeps to the face.
finally, the Japanese judges put alot of stock in IPPON, or just the fighting spirit. So even if a fighter is CLEARLY losing, if he is just GOING for it, just balls to the wall, they will throw in a point for that effort.

  40. Gusnark on October 4th, 2007 10:25 pm

    Stephen… this time I agree. :)
Buakaw lacks motivation. Since he came to K1, the only real opponents were Kraus and Souwer. They beat him. Then Buakaw beat them back… I mean, it’s pretty natural to feel unmotivated, lol.

Actually I hope that his latest lame fights are the reason for not being motivated. I would like to see that spark in his eyes again. For example watch the fight vs Jordan Tai.

  41. Jusoh on October 5th, 2007 4:04 am

hey! masato won it fair and square.
stop giving all the excuses on the japanese judges and the lack of motivation craps!

i am not a masato supporter but i can accept that masato is better than buakow in this K1-MAX 2007!

  42. Gusnark on October 5th, 2007 7:17 am

    Jusoh
    Yes, Masato won.

“stop giving all the excuses on the japanese judges and the lack of motivation craps!”

Man, it’s ALL about motivation and being prepared.

  43. Muaythaistuff on October 17th, 2007 9:18 pm

    Buakaw will be back

    frighting !!
