The Worst Muay Thai T-Shirts
November 29, 2006 by nopstar · 10 Comments
I consider myself a fairly big Muay Thai fan. I try to get to all the Muay Thai events and fights whenever I can. As a fan, I’m always on the lookout for New Muay Thai shirts. It’s been really hard for me to find anything I would even want to wear. There are tees that are associated with a specific gym that you wear out of loyalty. Then there are tees that you wear because they’re just plain badass. It’s been tough going… Most of the tees I’ve come across have a very MMA/WWF quality to them. What’s up with that? Here are some of the worst shirts I came across.

Clearly I’m missing something here? The Mule has just shat on your shirt.

These “Thailand” Shirts have been around since I was 10. This is the ubiquitous Muay Thai shirt that every t-shirt vendor on Sukhumvit Ave. has been hawking for a decade. I’m curious if these shirts are that popular, or if they just printed 500,000 of them and they’ve been getting rid of them ever since. If you own one of these shirts chances are your parents, or grandparents bought it for you during their vacation to Thailand. Read more
Same, Same but Different…
Here is a shot of JWP punishing Bruce MacFie at the Nov. 25th, Evolution 9 event. These two pics were taking roughly a year apart from each other. If you don’t know who JWP is, then go back to your Tae Bo class.

K-1 World GP 2006

It’s that time of year again! Even though, I’m a bigger fan of the K-1 Max I’m always psyched to see the big boys go at it. K-1 has been pissing me off a little in the past… I think freaks like Bobb Sapp and Hong Man Choi have been ruining K-1.

Leave it to the Japanese to make the these totally bizarre adverts. Oh and why is Hoost speaking with a Japanese accent? So Here’s the tournament bracket… what are your thoughts?

- I think Schilt squeaks past Lebanner but only after enduring a serious beat down.
- Hoost, despite being old gets passed Chalid
- I think Karaev defeats Glaube,
- Remy victorious over Leko by knock out.
Then…
- Sorry to Say it, Schilt over Hoost.
- Bonjansky over Feitosa (wishful thinking)
- A very broken Bonjansky wins over Schilt in extra rounds.
I also see that Aerts is fighting Musashi in a Super Fight, I think Musashi is gonna get pwned. Any thoughts?
Oct. WBC Muay Thai Rankings
I was just looking at the latest WBC Muay Thai Rankings. Props to James Cook a friend and local Bay area fighter is ranked 14th in the 147 lbs/66 Kg spot. Big ups to Richard Cadden 20th, in the Super light weight division. However I’m curious about Kit Cope being ranked first in the 168 lbs class. When was the last time he fought Muay Thai? I thought he was Mr. MMA?

I see Raul Llopis is ranked 17th in the Super- Feather Weights. It will be interesting to see if the powers that be will allow Neungsiam to fight in the WBC. Interesting story but Master Toddy was trying to get Neungsiam on the August 19th WBC sanctioned event. Rumor has it Neungsiam’s ex-manager was the one who kept him off the ticket. Thoughts…info… anyone?
Thanks for the heads up Ernesto.
Sakmongkol vs. Peter Crooke
November 27, 2006 by nopstar · 10 Comments
This past Saturday, Peter Crooke in his retirement fight faced off against his hero and Muay Thai Legend Sakmongkol. For those of you who don’t know who Peter Crooke is He’s an English fighter who’s been wrecking fighters in the European SuperLeague. Some of his notable wins have been against tough opponents such as Jordan Tai, Khunphon, and Malaipetch.

Sakmongkol, who’s last major win was against John Wayne Parr in 2004. I had mentioned Sakmongkol in a previous post, as he was a great rival and friend of Jongsanan. I had mentioned to Noom that “Sak” was fighting this week, it was the first he had heard about it. Without hesitation he said he won’t have any problems… I asked Noom if he knew where “Sak” was training. He said he positive but the last time they spoke he was training out of Muay Thai Plaza. If anyone can verify this it would be greatly appreciated.
As Noom predicted Sakmongkol was victorious, winning on points. I hope to have the video clip of the fight soon.

The other night (while on my back) at the gym I was admiring some of the belts that were hanging on the wall. Some fancy, some big, some small, some just plain janky. It Got me thinking… I know the importance of the Lumpini and Rajadomnoern belts, but from a pure aesthetics stand point, are they good looking belts? I really don’t know, and I’m honestly having problems looking at them objectively. So, who’s got the best looking belt? Here, in order of fugliest to pimp’n, are my picks for the best looking belts.
