I just came across some news while browsing the K-1fans forum. Apparently on July 3rd at Lumpini they’re holding a big “Lumpini vs. Rajadomnern” fights. The list includes the who’s who of MuayThai from 118 lbs to 128 lbs. Should be an amazing event. Hopefully LDF will be able to sneak back stage and get us some behind the scenes footage and interviews.
Anyway that wasn’t what i found interesting. The main event of the evening features Sanchai Sor. Kingstar vs. Petchboonchu FA Group & Saketdao. According to this post, Petchboonchu will take on Sanchai for the first 3 rounds and Sagetdao will finish with the last 2 rounds. I know Sanchai’s pimp hand is strong but I find this totally gimmicky and unnecessary. I know most of you are going to disagree, but it really smacks of something K-1 would whip out. Are ticket sales down or something, if you ask me there’s no need to jump the shark. What’s next tag team MuayThai? Orono & Petchbooncho vs. Sanchai & Nong O?
Apparently this isn’t new, they used to pit a Thai vs. to foreign fighters. What do you guys think? Interesting? Gimmick? Lame?

Both Gimmick and lame.
This isn’t something new as they have had these types of matches before when someone was super dominant and they felt that had to bill something worthwhile.
Some matches that I can recall:
Posai Sittiboonlert vs. Jocky Sitgunpai & Jitti Muengkhonkean
Jocky Sitgunpai lost against Jitti Muangkhonkean & Saeksan Sor. Tepitak
Payap Premchai vs. Lakchart Sor. Prapartsorn & Khunponnoi
Cherry Sor Wanich vs. Ceasar Dilek & Joe Prestia
Gongtorannee Payakaroon vs. Massuers and another fighter which I can’t recall
Nuetorannee had lost in a 2 vs. 1 against Eddie & Manu Ntoh
Namkabuan won against the Eddie & Manu Ntoh a few months later.
Kinda sucks if the 2 guys can’t win, seems like a lose-lose situation.
I’ll admit it, I’m definitely interested in how this one goes. Yeah, it’s a gimmick to put more paying butts on the seats, and its totally lame as a competition between athletes. But the same stupid part of me that watched the first 2 episodes of Spike TV’s “Deadliest Warrior” wants to see this.
How about a ladder match for the belt?
Liam Harrison posted this up on ax forums last week.It seems a lot of people on there noted that there has been loads of fights inThailand using this format although not regularly but it has been going on for years.Pretty sure I remember an old trainer of mine claiming that he had thought under this format in the past aswell.
Dont really know what the point of it myself but probably gets bums on seats and it poses many questions ie what if Saenchai get banged out in one of the first three. or what if saenchai nags out Petchboonchu in the first does saketdao fight the whole thing? How the hell is it scored because theres 2 sets of possible feel out rounds??!!!
Aside from anything else though in reality I bet its just a hard fought demonstration fight at best, they will make sure it ges the distance probably awarding it to Saenchai.
It is a gimmick, but I am totally buying into it.
ha ha! yeah, but it’s a fun gimmick, and Saenchai is going to kick ass. It isn’t like he doesn’t normally have to compete with a handicap anyway.
I wouldn’t mind seeing that!
This sounds more like Chuck Norris’ World Combat League.. hahaha
from the press conference yesterday the rules as follows, 5 rounds, they two opponents will draw on the night before the fight to see who goes first. If for example Saenchai was to get koed in first 3 rounds then the fighter who hadn’t fought yet would not fight but still get his purse. If For example Petchboonchu went first and got koed in round 1 then the round would be scored 10-8 in favour of Saenchai and then Sagetdao would have to fight 4 rounds instead of 2
Rob!
Welcome to MMT!, I take it your going to get lots of nice snaps from ringside. Do you know if Saenchai has changed up his training for this bout?
thanks mate
hopefully will get some
not sure about the training, but I doubt it, they never really up it tha much for the 8 man tournaments so doubt this will be much different, Sanchai being a master technician doesn’t exactly train the hardest in the world, those style of fighters train too hard and they don’t fight so good.
don’t really care for it myself, reminds me of pro wrestling. but the event itself looks monstrous, so will be a night that pleases, no doubt.
huge chance i’m going to this…let’s see what i can do….
